Mike Pettine reports directly to Schotty!

This must be an old picture. Stephen looks way OLDER now!! This is a better pic of him in his youth.

I agree, but tbf it’s not just been assumed: Parker’s comments (which reeked of arrogance and defensiveness tbh) indicated Pettine will be working under him.

I think Parker’s going to be in for a nasty surprise…
Thanks. I didn't see CP's comments. I can totally understand any defensiveness because it's just not a good look for him.

How is that different than any other coach? Don’t they all in someway report to schotty

He has had some good defenses in the past. He is more qualified to run the team then who we got now
He's...fine. His Green Bay defenses were pretty average.

I just don't think he represents some sort of magic bullet.

There is a story here.......

This is not a story.

George Edwards had the exact same role here in Dallas, reporting directly to McCarthy while he was supporting both Nolan and Zimmer

When Pettine was the Packers DC, Dom Capers came in as a defensive assistant and reported directly to McCarthy.

Jsut two years ago, in Cleveland, Vrabel was a senior assistant reporting to the HC, Stefanski.

But this is The Zone, where facts often yield to drama.

But that was with GB, it was genius of them. But it happens here, Jerry and the coaches are idiots.

Doubt it.

This is as dysfunctional as it gets.

The players are going to be even more confused. If that was possible.
This type of thing is a tradition in the NFL.

The Cowboys have done it many times

McCarthy and Edwards - (Quinn)
Tuna and Carthon - (Zimmer)
Kiffin and Garrett - (Marinelli)

Schottenheimer himself reported to McCarthy
as an analyst brought in to help Quinn as a scout and game prep assistant.

The only real issue here are the optics of it. It’s a very tough situation for CP and his humility will be tested.

If the defense shows improvement Mike Pettine is going to get the bulk of the glory right now. Cp needs to be heads down, drown out the noise, and only be focused on results.

Was he absent before the GB loss?

Regardless.

This is a bad look for a team that already is under a microscope constantly.

Get ready for the sports talk to have a field day.

Which is all Jerry cares about so. Win win for the Cowboys Marketing Team.

The man was going to be hired by Christian Parker, his boss, before the season started, but he declined, wanting to stay retired. Parker wanted him here, and as the defensive coordinator, he’s still the boss.

This guy’s title is senior assistant defensive, whatever you want to call it, he works under Parker, and that’s how it should be. He’s being pulled out of retirement to assist the defense, not to take Parker’s job or make big changes.

He’s another cog in the wheel to help communication and speed up the transition to a 3-4 defense, which right now is being hindered by other assistants, not Parker.

The players aren’t getting it done, especially on the sideline during games. Now there’s an extra voice who knows this defense inside and out, here to help the team, not undermine Parker.

Some fans seem intent on wanting people fired, berated on TV, or talked down to just to feel better about a bad season, but that’s not how it works in reality.

MP was not brought in to replace Parker, Parker wanted him here, and there’s no ill will or conspiracy.

This doesn’t mean Parker isn’t doing his job; he just needs more help relaying what the defense needs to the players, plus an extra voice and set of eyes to accelerate fixes.

However, with five key injuries to starters who would have played important roles and big snaps, the team has been at a disadvantage. They added Porter, but he only played one game before getting sick, making him the sixth key defensive player who hasn’t been able to contribute.

That’s what’s really going on.

If Brian Schottenheimer remains head coach next year, Parker’s job is safe.

I don’t believe he could flip a 4–3 into a 3–4 in just one offseason and have everything needed to make it work.

Jerry knows it, everyone knows it, this is just about saving this year. However, if Schottenheimer gets fired, I doubt much of the staff would stay, and that’s the only way things change next year. I don’t think that will happen, though. They need a full season where all three phases are clicking.

Right now, there’s no defense or special teams, and it’s unfair to blame Schottenheimer for the mess when his offense and the players he brought in are actually working.

They’re not perfect, but they’re effective. With a stronger defense, improved special teams, and a healthier season, I think it would work out fine.

Add that I am shocked that Sorenson remained on this team during this transition we had during a longer off week I really thought they would change something there And why they did not I don't know maybe they see it as the players but that would have been a good wake up call there you fire somebody that's really not doing a good job anyway just to make a point and send messages to the rest of the team..

I Mean that could still happen...
I blame Shotty for the lack of discipline and focus. The team is loose. The first and goal failure in the Baltimore game falls on him. IMO the penalties and dropped passes fall on him not getting his players focused. Sure, one can say performance falls on the players, but there are certain coaches that these things don’t happen to. They instill discipline and get the payments ready to play and know how to win. Look at the commanders game, what a fiasco. That’s all on the coach.

All the qualified ST coaches have a job at this time of year.
