Classless Idiot, Golden Tate, Mocks Sean Lee

I know I'm in the clear minority on that play, but I had almost no problem with that block. He might have hit the helmet, but, otherwise, he came in low, and square up in Lee's chest, and Lee just didn't see him because he was so focussed on the Wilson. It was a brutal hit, but a great block and, mostly, just football.

I completely agree with you, I had no problem with the block itself. What got me was the celebration afterwards, just uncalled for.

As an earlier poster commented that previous clip doesn't really show the angle he took. It was a cheap shot and he was fined for it, helmet to helmet. I hope we are good enough to run into these guys next season and somebody lays the wood to this bigmouth Golden Tate fool. This team needs to grow a pair and starts blowing dudes up, make offenses scared to line up against us. Oh and I guarantee Lee learned from this and will be keeping his head on a swivel.

He was fined because it was ugly.

There's no way you can hit a guy and not have his head move at all.

In the grand scheme of "helmet-to-helmet" contact, this doesn't even register. The fact that the two helmets happened to come into contact in the course of a big hit doesn't make it a cheap shot to me. I'm almost sure there's a clause in the league's rule that says normal contact in the process of a tackle doesn't constitute helmet-to-helmet contact.

The only reason it was fined is because it was huge and looked bad.

This is a textbook hit but you have the same thing.....Davis' head whips forward on impact and then bounces back.

That looked like a clean block to me. I want our guys bringing the nasty like that.

Yeah, the celebration was redonkulous. But that's Tate for you. He's an annoying little dude with a silly name.

You can see Chancellor led with his shoulder, it was a clean hit. He wasn't fined or penalized for it.

Tate didn't get fined because it was an "ugly" block. Yeah it was a big hit, but it wasn't clean. He was fined because it's an illegal play. He led (launched) with his helmet on a defenseless player, I'm not sure what you are seeing. In your recollection of the NFL rules, what does an illegal blindside helmet to helmet block against a defenseless player have anything to do with helmet to hemet contact within the normal process of a tackle? That makes no sense, and the NFL didn't agree with you.

This is from the rulebook "forcibly hitting the defenseless player's head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or graspoing him; or lowering the head and making forcible contact with the top-crown or forehead/hairline parts of the helmet against any part of the defenseless player's body."

If you think the 49ers defense won't get at him this year for that comment your wrong lol. As long as he gets what's comin to him I don't care who does it

The NFL doesn't agree with a lot of stuff that people have problems with.

Chancellor was flagged, Tate wasn't. The fines were completely opposite. Try finding any sort of consistency in how the NFL rules and you'll be pulling your hair out by the end of the afternoon.

Simply because there was some helmet contact is a bogus criteria for me and it should be bogus for anyone that has an understanding of where the head is at in relation to someone's shoulders.

It wasn't a bad hit IMO but then again, I don't make subsets of rules that apply to other players. The initial contact wasn't to the head of Lee, it was square in the chest. He didn't lower his head, he's just a smaller player trying to block a bigger player. How would any smaller player keep his head out of the way when blocking a bigger player, and deliver a textbook block without any sort of violation?

The rule is written to apply to basically any hit. It's the league who decides when to apply it.

It was a gook block, and I hope Lee learned from that! Football is not for sissies.

What I think happened with the helmet subject was, that cheap artist, hit Lee in the chest his helmet slid up under Lee's helmet because of Lee's shoulder pads...two plastics coming together.

But still, respect your peers...payback is a (shut your mouth)!

To be honest I don't think I have much of a problem with the hit. I think he's a little stupid for acting like the hit was amazing when it was a blindside one. I guess what I really have a problem with is how no one went over and trounced him back. Actually if I remember right, no Cowboy players came to check on Lee either, but my memory can be quite bad at times.

And considering where he was drafted, he's been somewhat of a failure.

Yeah, I agree..I know it's not smart to go get a penalty for some respect, but the Cowboys better start giving a little back. Be a pro, respect other players in the NFL.

But stick up for your teammates even if it costs you 15 yards. Let the other team, we don't take that kind of play! And, I hope the coaches play that cheap shot every day.

If karma is a wheel, wont be too long until golden tate gets darryl jackson'ed.

might as well flip a coin to see what penalty is called.

This. It was a clean block, but to brag about it is classless. Wow, you made a block. It's part of your job. Now shut up and go about your business.

I didn't consider it a dirty hit at all. Illegal - yes.. due to leading with the helmet. Nothing dirty about it however.

Oh, for God's sake...

It was not, repeat not, a legal block. It's an inherently dangerous hit, for reasons that should be immediately obvious.

Tate started the sequence several yards farther upfield than Lee was, therefore Lee was considered to be a defenseless player in that situation.

The call for the late hit out of bounds was not a foul.

RT @twlr3: was that a legal hit on Lee in Dallas game?

Re the hit on Sean Lee

Mike Pereira ‏@MikePereira
The hit on Lee is an illegal blindside block. Lee is considered defenseless, which means you can't lower your head & hit in head/neck area

On a blindside block the player is defenseless and you can't lead with your helmet no matter where you hit him.

If the play had been officiated correctly (Tate s/h/b penalized while Carter should not), Seattle would have been looking at 2nd and 20+ from their own 10 yard line ahead by 14 with most of the 4th qtr remaining. If they don't pick up the 1st Dallas is likely getting the ball around midfield. If the Boys go down and get a td you're looking at a one posession game with half the 4th qtr left.

If that had happened and Seattle had wound up losing, would Tate be crowing about his great hit?
