Anybody know the cap ramifications of this? Does the rest of Livings guaranteed money hit the cap right now?

Good.

Scared me for a moment, I saw this thread from the main screen and it said Nate Livings and Travis.... Thought Frederick was injured or something and not playing Sunday.

Supposedly it costs the same to keep him or release him.

Good. The rumors (and they're just rumors, but I believe them based off of how the team has acted this offseason) that he was lazy in his rehab and welcoming IR because of the guarantees in his contract really turned me off on Livings. I guess we were waiting on his cap hit to make sure we could get the Waters deal done.

Todd Archer 5 wonders from the other day....

2. I wonder if Nate Livings will get a chance to play for the Cowboys this season. Wait, you ask, isn’t he on injured reserve? Yes. That normally ends the player’s chance of playing this season and he was not eligible to put on the new returnable IR list, but the Cowboys could always reach an injury settlement with him. For the sake of argument, let’s say the Cowboys give Livings a two-week settlement. They would need to wait another six weeks before they could bring him back. With Livings’ $1.7 million base salary guaranteed, he gets paid no matter what, but the Cowboys could re-sign him after eight weeks. There is an offset in Livings’ deal that would lighten the Cowboys’ required payment. Should he sign with another team for say, $700,000, then the Cowboys would only owe him $1 million. If the Cowboys went this route, then they would effectively be using the offset themselves where they could get the benefit of seeing Livings play if they need offensive line help.

Says injury settlement, so hopefully it is for less then what he was due.

They Livings/Berny experiment will always be a head scratcher, along with the revolving door at TE2.

I posted that the other day and I couldn't find where I read them. Do you remember where you heard this? It's frustrating me and @RoyTheHammer asked me

I take this to mean we are officially done with him and hope he signs with another team to make some of his salary back against the cap.

I got it from Talking Cowboys about two weeks back. Mickey started it, saying that Livings had been virtually unseen around the DC complex for rehab during the offseason, and that he was pretty non-challant about his effort since camp had started. As if he had no intention of competing for his starting job.
Broaddus was more obviously disdainful, saying he'd cut the guy outright and take the cap hit and move on.

Who knows for sure, but I'd say it's a pretty safe bet if these two have the opinion publicly, that they've heard as much and worse behind the scenes. Pretty gross behavior for a guy on what's basically a two-year deal for a team at a position of relative need.

Livings basically checked out the minute Jerry's signing bonus check cleared. It was Mission Accompished that very moment.

I've got a feeling Spencer will do the same thing. Don't give him a big deal.

No, it was a reaction to Jerry's insistence on ignoring the offensive line need and trading away a second-round pick to go up and get Mo Claiborne.
