After seeing Spencer's interview last week, it seemed apparent, this was where this was going to go, you could almost tell by his body language and the way he responded to questions.

Especially the pause around the microfracture surgery question and his description about his pain being caused by bone on bone knocking because there was no cartilage left.

Just find it hard to believe it was a surprise to anyone within the organization, maybe it was, just find it hard to believe.

Monday afternoon, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said he expected defensive end Anthony Spencer to return from knee soreness and pick up full-time snaps again.

Tuesday afternoon the Cowboys universe was shattered when team owner/general manager Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show Spencer would need season-ending surgery on his left knee. The surgery could be microfracture, which could take up to a year of recovery time.

Garrett said Wednesday morning he was surprised to hear about the surgery.

So the first time Garrett had an inkling of Spencer's microfracture surgery was after Jerry's blurt on his radio show? Talk about communication break downs.

I highly doubt he did not know until Wed. I'm sure when Jerry found out so did Garrett.

I really, really, really hope that isn't the case.

If it is, last one out...hit the lights.

Having read several tweets and reports... The timeline was simply this... Garrett had his usual Monday PC. Spence had another MRI Monday afternoon...AFTER the PC.

And then Jerry shared the news on Tues.

Spence got yet another opinion to confirm.

Surgery requirement confirmed...

Spence goes to IR, and Chris "what'shisface" was signed.

Yep, it's even in the linked story. :)

Monday afternoon, Garrett said he expected Spencer to play. Monday night the MRI was done and the decision was made. Tuesday Jerry reveals the news.

So it's not that Jerry torpedoed Garrett's super-stealth plan to hide the injury. It's that at the Monday PC, no one knew surgery was needed.

Spencer and his agent made a business decision.

I wonder if Spencer knew about this and kept it from the Cowboys.

That is pretty low by Spencer and his agent. If they were hiding an impending season-ending surgery- and letting him go out and play some useless snaps to continue the charade to bilk more money in the shadiest way possible.

You know people don't click the links.. lol

Another completely misleading and dishonest thread title. Sigh. Woody and Chocolate Lab thanks for supplying the truth

What in the world are you talking about? How did he hide an injury?

It amazes me that some people think this was all some kind of sneaky plan by Spencer to screw the Cowboys. This is an extremely serious injury. He may never recover from it. If it's bad enough, and if he doesn't respond well for whatever reason, he may never recover and he may need a very premature knee replacement.

So how can anyone think this would in any way be desirable for the player? Don't you think he'd rather have been 100% healthy this year and put up great numbers, which oh by the way would be the most beneficial scenario for the team as well as the player?

But a lot of people hate Spencer for whatever reason -- always have -- so this is the nonsense we get.

Tight timeline granted but the fact that Jerry could not pick up the phone and let Garrett know before before his reveal on his radio show and Garrett's PC is a little peculiar.

Ah, PC was the day prior. But then how could Garrett be surprised by the news if the surgery had not even been decided yet?

Did you see the word "IF" that I wrote?
It's in the quote.
I said IF they did that, it would be pretty low.

Go jump on someone else's throat.

Garrett just knows that, in his playing days, Spencer would have shot that thing up and played every week until the end of the season.

What makes you think Garrett didn't know before Jerry told it on his radio show? Garrett was only surprised by the need for the surgery not at finding out after Jerry announced it.

You always have some real doozies, and this is another one.

You don't just shoot up bone on bone.
