He's telling us to think about if it was directed towards other ethnicities. Hilarious how he refused to utter the other words but continued using the name Commander. Point not taken. Thanks for trying costas

I thought he was spot on. Actually I thought he held back. There's a lot more that needs to be said about the topic during a nationally televised skins game.

I both like and respectfully disagree with your opinion. It is my opinion (and we all have one) that we have become a nation of exceedingly whiny and thin-skinned people. For what it's worth, I'm a quarter Cherokee (not that it means much).

I agree with you. I hate political correctness 99% of the time. This issue is different for me. The word is soo blatantly racist that all dictionaries have defined it as such and it has been gone from the vernacular for 50 years because it was considered soo racist. My common sense just won't let me come down on the side I typically support this time.

Exactly. I'm Just waiting for the day gingers start protesting outside Dr pepper headqurters trying to change the name gingerale.

It's funny. Bob Costas is great at his job and has been a top-notch broadcaster forever. He gives good interviews.

But that doesn't mean he really knows anything about sports in itself. So I don't really care about his opinion on sports.

And I REALLY REALLY don't care about his opinion on anything else.

I do see your point.

I know they will fight it but the name Commanders is racist.

I don't know the solution though. Snyder has said many times he will not change it.

Actually its origin is not racist, it was used by native americans themselves to differentiate themselves from white settlers while corresponding.

Negro isn't racist either, but now makes people squirm because of the slur that was derived from it.

We don't refer to Asian people as Orientals any longer either, as it has become archaic in nature, may make some people scratch their heads, but in and of itself it is not derogatory in intent.

Intent is in delivery, and many of these words were perverted and co-opted, not designed as prejudices.
