@AdamSchefter: Dallas now projected to be NFL-high $31 million over salary cap next year. One NFL exec called Dallas' cap situation in 2014 "a train wreck"

There are really people here who think we are fine cap wise....

The Cowboys will redo Romo's contract and either Carrs or Wares to get us under the cap max. I know this gets old and will someday bite the Cowboys in the butt when Ware or someone else can't play anymore and we have to pay them a final payment of 20 million or so for their last year and they won't even be on the field.

They say this every year and they somehow make it in under the cap. The only real ramifications of this is that it limits free agent opportunities.

I agree they will be limited in free agent opportunities. Just still wonder why the Owner would give these contracts to players that were past their prime, injured often or overrated.

Of course we will make it under the cap.

Did you guys think I thought they'd cancel our season bc of our cap?

But seriously...we will be extremely limited going forward.

Well, we can simply restructure.

And make future cap years even worse.

If this team was winning while doing this it would be one thing. To constantly have to max out the credit card for .500 football with a franchise QB, shows just how badly this franchise is mismanaged by the Jones twins.

At some point you have the pay the bill, and quit using the charge card.

For crying out loud. It's stunning that people don't understand the advantages of restructuring. The NFL encourages it by providing teams the equivalent of an interest-free loan that also gives teams a great deal of flexibility.

This threads always crack me up. This season, we were nailed with an unfair cap penalty and tagged Spencer, and yet we still found a way to sign Waters, extend Lee, and have spare money to roll over into next season. Yes, some seasons we won't be able to go crazy like when we signed Carr, but we'll always be able to extend our guys and sign needed FAs to fill holes.

Wouldn't it be nice to go crazy and sign someone like Carr. You said it yourself. The point being why put yourself in cap hell having to restructure each year. Put your team in a position to be able to sign elite free agents and not paying for the past in the future.

But that is the only reason they are doing it.

As long as romo, ware, witten are here we are going to be near the cap.

And it's better than having 15 million of space and pulling for Christian ponder or whatever.

Someday when the big three are gone they will clean up the cap

No team has the flexibility to sign a guy like Carr every season. You're missing the point.

Exactly. EVERY team that has a franchise QB that isn't on a rookie contract will be somewhat restricted by the cap. It's a GOOD thing.

If the cap was managed correctly and you were not paying for contracts for dead money and overpaying average players you would not need to keep redoing contracts .

Has there ever been a year where our cap situation wasn't a train wreck? Every year we have to restructure contracts just to sign our draft picks. That is just the way we do business and every knows it. Besides, what the hell is ESPN talking about next years salary cap situation in the middle of October for anyway?
