I liked the year the Cowboys had extra money and signed Carr.... By the way how is that working out?

We could always leave it as is and dare the league to do something about it.

Well, we can simply restructure.

And make future cap years even worse.

If this team was winning while doing this it would be one thing. To constantly have to max out the credit card for .500 football with a franchise QB, shows just how badly this franchise is mismanaged by the Jones twins.
stephen jones is well respected around the league. true story, i heard bill parcells say it once.

The Cowboys will redo Romo's contract and either Carrs or Wares to get us under the cap max. I know this gets old and will someday bite the Cowboys in the butt when Ware or someone else can't play anymore and we have to pay them a final payment of 20 million or so for their last year and they won't even be on the field.

I wonder how all of these $$$ are handled from a tax perspective. To me JJ can probably write them off ( millions of wasted $$$) as part of the Cowboys business.

Anyone agree or have another take ?

I think... And I want to qualify that my opinion is simply that, but there are times when I believe Jerry "steamrolls" others, including Stephen when it comes to compensating players on the team that Jerry wants to retain or resign. Deion, Troy, Emmitt, Mike, Larry Allen, Flozell, Barber, Ratliff, Hamlin, Roy Williams 1 & 2.

Jerry has been doing this nonsense well before Stephen had a voice.

Jerry says, "Stephen (lipsmack) Ratliff has been a great player for the Cowboys and (lipsmack) his current contract really isn't the equal of what he means to the Cowboys... redo it."

I want to see how things are managed AFTER Jerry gives up the throne before I toss Stephen under the bus.

But that is the only reason they are doing it.

As long as romo, ware, witten are here we are going to be near the cap.

And it's better than having 15 million of space and pulling for Christian ponder or whatever.

Someday when the big three are gone they will clean up the cap

I never questioned the intent. It's the results that are lacking. The Cowboys are constantly pushing debt into future years to achieve another .500-like season.

When your team is run of the mill and you spend more than any team in the league for it, you're mismanaging the franchise. It's really quite that simple.

I would just kike the Cowboys to be able to sign quality players in their prime to help the team(Example CARR). Quit extending old guys on huge contracts for lots of years.

This is the truth plain and simple. Well said.;)

The totals are figured into the overall profit/loss of the team. Yeah, adding a few extra mil to the payroll would lower profit and thus lower taxes... For a team that's making a lot of money it's not going to make any difference. Once you're in that high-end tax bracket, you're in that high-end tax bracket.

Until then, I'll just believe the fictional story you created here. Where it's okay to excuse the team capologist for such a sorry cap state because you believe he was steamrolled by his father for all the bad decisions.

I feel comforted and look forward to the future.

Well can't argue with the lack of results for sure.

Your "story" isn't any more proven than mine.

It's a funny complaint since signing a guy like Carr is part of the reason they are so close to the cap in the first place. He's a 10 million a year guy.

Terrible contract. Just completely wasteful spending.

that's a good point. i dont think the carr contract was bad. neither was the lee contract. so in reality we're still suffering from decision 3-4 years ago when stephen didn't have as much control as he does now. i still don't like him for some reason.

this team just needs to draft better. i think the drafting recently has been overated. 2012 is looking like a complete disaster.

Sure it is. It's reality. He runs our cap. It's been mismanaged. I'm not pretending anything went on behind the scenes that I couldn't possibly have any knowledge of.

Running the cap and running the team are two different things entirely.

When the CEO makes a bad decision, do you blame the CFO?

I guess in your world you do.

CARR is young and one of the best players on the team. You are getting what you pay for not like (Roy Williams, Newman, Ratliff) There in lies the problem.

How does Stephen have more control today than three years ago?

Don't take fan talk as reality. They have an agenda to make Stephen appear to be the anti-Jerry. I haven't seen one sign of that in his entire time pretending to be a VP of Personnel/Cap man.
