Skip Bayless-"Why Jerry Jones' team won't win"

That's a Jerry I was on board with, where did he go?
 
I thought Jerry extended Romo because he's an above average QB, we had virtually no caps pace and needed cap relief.
 
Dallas has lost its tradition to win. The entire organization says they want to win. But really deep down inside, what is important to this team is money. Money and profits is above everything else including winning. Jerry want to make big splashes. So he signs washed up vets for big money. Jerry wants to win he says. But the actions says otherwise. Winning is no longer everything in Dallas. The organization knows it and its starts getting the players. Rookies are immune to this madness the first few years playing for the Cowboys. But after a while, it sinks in. Winning is not everything with this team. Thus mediocrity performances despite the talent sinks in and we actually lose these close games that we are supposed to win.
 
Skip gets some of it way wrong, but his larger point is correct - Jerry Jones makes it very difficult for his team to succeed.
 
Jerry is also missing the SOB part that every organization needs. Skip refers to it as the Bad Cop. Tex Schramm used to refer to it as the SOB.
 
I will defend Romo only, by saying when Brady, Manning, or Rodgers put up 48 at home, they win by 30. With that said, I agree with every other line in this story. I mean it can't be every coach, every player, the only constant is Jerry. period. I will DVR the games from now on and only watching when I know the results. It's not worth wasting my Sunday only to be made sick to my stomach for a week. I won't do it anymore.

If he really had that type of mentality, he could just find any player to do the same thing and at a much cheaper price.

If you don't believe that Romo can win the Super Bowl, so be it. But it's insane to think that Jerry only extended Romo because he sells tickets and merchandise. He extended Romo because he believes Romo can win the Super Bowl and in this case...there was not a better option out there. That's unless you wanted us to draft Geno Smith instead.

You post a lot of interesting stuff, Rich, but you're so far off base about Jerry Jones it's crazy.

Most of what Jerry Jones does has to do with something other than winning. From his own mouth, the only reason he hired Bill Parcells, the only decent coach we've had in nearly 20 years, was to get the stadium built. If that doesn't lay bare what Jones is all about, obviously nothing can. For some of you, there is nothing Jones could say or do that would sink in what he's all about and why his circus can't possilby win against other organizations that are - in fact - committed to winning.

It's amazing how much I DVR games now. Cowboys games used to be can't miss. After the years and years of mediocrity and knowing that it will not change as long as Jerry Jones is in charge, I find other options more appealing on a Sunday afternoon.

He has no reason to create a winner. He's selling tickets and merchandise hand over fist. He's more interesting in having fun and being the face of the team than winning. He's like a Kardashian or something. Seriously, how many GMs/owners talk to the press as much as him? He undermines his coach on a daily basis.
 
One stop by the defense in the Bronco game, and one stop by the defense in the Lions game and Jerry and Romo would not have had an article like this written. If someone wants to blame Jerry for choosing the defensive players, I guess that's cool and they have that right.

As far as Romo goes, again, if he has to pass, pass, pass to try and keep the team in a game, he is going to make mistakes. And, IMO, that goes back to the defense, last in the NFL.
 
First of all, to say Romo isn't a Super Bowl caliber QB is a joke. Eli, Flacco, Big Ben, Kap, Hassleback, Dilfer and others all won or got real close to winning a title. Romo is just as good. Saying he has to carry the entire team on his back is not the standard. He is more than capable of doing his part with the offense to win. He just needs the Defense, Special Teams and coaches to do their jobs. They don't have to dominate, but they can't lose the game and expect Romo to overcome it alone. Not many QBs can, but those were the truly elite- Brady, Peyton, Brees.

As for Jones, I think most of us old-timers don't fully appreciate what the Landry teams accomplished. Yes it was before the salary cap and major free agency, but their dominance spoiled us. Then we got the JJs and 3 more titles very quickly. I just think with our past success, JJ never took the time to do a real re-build after the glory years. He thought they could keep putting winners on the field every year with just the star on the helmet and throwing lots of cash and big names at the problem. I'm fairly certain that winning and competing for Super Bowls every year like the Landry teams did would make JJ a heckuva a lot more money than he is making going .500 for 15+ years. I honestly believe he wants to win more than just making money, but he was never realistic about our players and coaches for too long. His early success led to either arrogance or ignorance, but I don't think he's intentionally sacrificing winning for dollars.
 
The ultimate talking head. Don't listen or watch him and never will. Even if he may be right from time to time.

Jerry hired Parcells because he thought Parcells could win a Super Bowl for him.

There is nothing more that Jerry would like to see happen than the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl.

Even if you're using the 'he's more worried about money argument', he knows that the money he gets from this team winning a Super Bowl far surpasses the money spent on an 'entertaining QB' and a 'popular Head Coach.'

His decisions aren't always right. They don't always work out. But he badly wants to win and he didn't extend Romo because he's an 'entertaining QB.' It's pure lunacy and buying into Skip's hack thoughts because that is all he is now... a clown that ESPN can parade out there to get the sheep into an uproar.

i think skip bayless knows sports a lot better than any of the fans on here.

He generally says outrageous stuff to get ratings and reactions out of people. Otherwise first take would be boring if stephen a smith and him agreed on everything.

He nailed it with this article, kinda crazy. The stuff jerry does is head scratching to say the lease.

The bolded quote is only partially correct.

He wants to see the Cowboys win the Super Bowl.....with him pulling the levers. He wants to be the face and primary builder of it.

If he hired someone else to run the team, and they won, he wouldn't get the same degree of satisfaction. In fact, I think it would actually bother him a bit that someone else would get the credit for building it, even if Jones would be credited for putting his ego aside, and doing the best thing for his team.

He doesn't want to win badly enough to turn over football operations to professionals. You can't make a good argument that winning championships is his greatest priority, because he hasn't made the minimum requisite personal sacrifice to achieve that goal....hire a real GM and let him do his job.
