Skip Bayless-"Why Jerry Jones' team won't win"

It's amazing how much I DVR games now. Cowboys games used to be can't miss. After the years and years of mediocrity and knowing that it will not change as long as Jerry Jones is in charge, I find other options more appealing on a Sunday afternoon.

Definition of a fair weather fan.

Putting all the blame on JJ seems like a cop out to me and a distraction from the real problem. Which is JG.

But who hired JG? Who keeps JG employed? How were the Cowboys prior to JG?

With all due respect, JG isn't the real problem because he serves at the pleasure of Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones is the real problem, and until he changes, nothing about the Cowboys is going to change.

Leadership sets the tone for EVERYTHING.

He has no reason to create a winner. He's selling tickets and merchandise hand over fist. He's more interesting in having fun and being the face of the team than winning. He's like a Kardashian or something. Seriously, how many GMs/owners talk to the press as much as him? He undermines his coach on a daily basis.

sure he does, he'd make more money winning and get that much more attention and potentially even the praise he appears to want so badly. Whether he realizes this or not is another issue altogether

Or, moreso, a lack of leadership.

Jerry hired Parcells because he thought Parcells could win a Super Bowl for him.

Bull. People say the weirdest things when they're drunk and many times it's something they don't have the courage to say when they're sober. Jerry said it himself. He hired BP to give him the cred needed to build his new money-making temple. He couldn't do it with three consecutive 5 and 11 seasons. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling himself.

lol

Jerry, doing his thing. And, Parcells needed some money because of his divorce, so both worked out for a time.

The bobbled snap...

Yes...But he already has money. What he wants is attention and glory and recognition. And winning will enhance that.

He doesn't want to win badly enough to turn over football operations to professionals. You can't make a good argument that winning championships is his greatest priority, because he hasn't made the minimum requisite personal sacrifice to achieve that goal....hire a real GM and let him do his job.

Well, in light of your arguement here - it could be said that his own recognition is more important to him than winning is outright. He wants to win but he also wants to be a part of it all.

Jerry already has plenty of money. You seriously didn't think that we could win a SB with Parcells? A lot of people thought that was the case when he was hired.

And all of this doesn't explain why are you a fan of the team. If Jerry is only in it for the money, then you're just a fool for rooting for the team, watching games, etc.

Jerry is like any other owner....they never have enough money. If they did, why would they build new money making stadiums? You can't possibly be so naive.

And I've been a fan of the team before Jerry and I'll be a fan of the team after he's long dead and buried (if he doesn't outlive me). I'm not a fan of Jerry Jones. Maybe to you he's the Cowboys...he wants to be the center of attention and he wants everyone to think he's the Cowboys but he's not, at least to me anyway. And that's a real stupid strawman argument you're making, by the way......

Has nothing to do with Romo actually winning a Super Bowl.

It's sheer lunacy to think that Jerry extended Romo because he's some sort of lightning rod for controversy and doesn't think Romo can win a Super Bowl.

Jerry extended Romo because he believes that the Cowboys can win a Super Bowl with him as the QB. And he's better than any alternatives. The draft class was incredibly weak for QB's and there were no good free agent QB's.

Whether Romo wins a Super Bowl or not isn't the point behind Skip's article. It's that he truly believes that Jerry doesn't think that the Cowboys can win with Romo, but since he's such a controversial QB that is the only reason for the extension.

It's nonsense. And anybody thinking that Skip is 'spot on' either didn't read the entire article or buys too much into media goofiness.

I'm not too happy with Romo's play this year, but we needed to extend his contract and he earned the extension. Hopefully we'll be smart enough to draft a QB next year and develop him for two years and then have him take over for Romo in 2016.

It's amazing that people can watch some of the QB play around the league and not realize why Romo was resigned.

The article isn't about if Jerry thinks the Cowboys can or can't win with Romo. It's about that Jerry cares more about being relevant, talked about, and entertaining, even if it's bad entertainment, then he does winning.

Whether Jerry wants to win or not,one thing is for certain.Jerry Jones is a terrible GM.

My god, I think that the Roonys / Maras are part of their franchises' continued success and feel very proud of their contributions. Jerry could too, if he just did the right thing. He'd have such universal respect, if he stood back and let professionals run his team.

Jones is so mentally diseased from his own ego and hubris that he will never do this. He would view it as a sign of weakness, and admitting that he failed.

I know, the fact that he admitted that he
would have fired himself for his lack of success yet continues to soldier on, is very telling.

There is nothing more that Jerry would like to see happen than the Cowboys winning a Super Bowl.
You just proved my point. Confronted with the truth of what Jerry Jones is, from his own mouth, and you deny anyway.

"They were on my $$$. Jerry's got to have a yes man. So to get this $$$$$ing stadium, I had to bring his $$$ in first." Jones' words, not mine.

Anyone who defends Jones at this point is either delusional, cannot stand the thought of admitting how stupidly wrong they were, or just wants to argue for the sake of arguing. Because no rational person can look at the last decade and a half, the totality of Jones' own testimony against himself, and conclude that what matters to him most where the Cowboys are concerned is winning. His only real interest is in the Cowboys is $$, and to a lesser degree, they're like a model train he loves to tinker with. If they win, so be it, but the important thing to him is it's his toy, and it's making him $$.
