The Core of this Team is Done

the core of this team has BEEN done....i posted this last year and was shredded...tearing this thing down is 2 years past due...

Witten and Ware are worthy. both Hall of Famers

not to me. This is the stat padding era of the NFL. And voters need to look real closely. They have been the leaders of a team that have won nothing. And I am not just talking Super Bowls. I mean think about the Eagles 5 or 6 NFC Title games. And HOFers on that team? So why would a couple of guys who stuck around for over 10 years with the same team be rewarded for winning one playoff game. Romo, Witten, Ware will own the Cowboy record books. And it is the emptiest feeling watching this era of Cowboy football.

I'm not sure that they were done, but it was clear that they faced diminishing returns in the near future. Unfortunately, it gets harder and harder to start over, every time we add more dead cap money onto their aging backs by restructuring them to simply make payroll. The core 3, (average age 32), now have almost $50 million in dead cap money allotted to them in 2014..... $50 million, I don't think that there are many other teams with three guys currently over 30 with that kind of cap liability next year.

The cap is not a problem, haven't you heard? Stephen chuckles and a good number of posters even get semi-aggressive, if you question how the cap is managed.

ITT: Garrett fanboy wants our best players gone so a new coach can't come in and win with them, thus showing how mediocre/bad RJ was.

That's just sad.

It's sad that you didn't read my first post, you could learn something from the OP.

I'd put money down that if a "real NFL" coach came and coached these same players the results would be the same.

You guys like to point to Harbaugh, Carroll, and Reid but I'd argue that they have have more talented teams than us.

As fans of the Cowboys it's hard to be objective about your own team and where they measure up to other teams, but I try to be as objective as possible and I see these other teams with better personnel than us.

You could take a page from Risen Star's book, he was right about fans seeing their own team through the rose-colored glasses.

This is just so hilarious and the stench of hypocrisy is strong... I thought the team fights for Garrett.. Now, it's the players fault for giving up on him? Lol....

It just can't be the fact he is just not effective. No way.

Is that why we physically couldn't keep up with those teams?

Oh man, you cannot be so Jason Garrett blinded, the guy seems like a great guy but he is a mediocre coach, no if's or but's about it.

LOL, I did read the OP. Didn't learn anything new from it. You somehow blame some of our best players for this team's failings. That alone makes little sense, but then you tie it back to Parcells. Never mind how many times it's been touted that Garrett has turned over and improved the roster from 2010 alone, much less 2006 when Parcells was here.

Let me ask you, when Phillips was here were you preaching that coaching doesn't matter, that it's 100% players on the team? Didn't think so.

It is hilarious how you want to lecture me about objectivity when you're the one who can't be objective about your favorite coach.

What I don't get is why it's so hard for some people to admit they're wrong. We're all wrong about things. I was sure that Marcus Spears was going to be a great player. Guess what? He was average as can be. I was way wrong on him, and I freely admit it. Amazingly, my self-worth remains intact and life carries on.

It's not that at all, I'm just past the point that another HC is just going to take these group of players and make them into winners.

The only way to fix the problem is to start all over and let the next guy build his team from the ground up. Don't force anyone on him that he doesn't want.

Harbaugh would never take a job under Jerry Jones ... never. Frankly any coach worth anything will stay as far away from this franchise as possible until Jerry steps away as the GM.

Maybe. People said Parcells would never take a job under Jerry too when initial rumors were flying around before he got hired.

You don't think Garrett has had input on the draft since he was hired as our Assistant HC in 2007? Most of the guys here on this team have come on Garrett's watch. There are 4 relevant players from the Parcells era. The "core" of this team has nothing to do with Parcells.

I'm definitely wrong about JG...there is no doubt about it. I thought he could turn them around but this same group of players has had three different head coaches with the same results. What else do you need to see?

I just hope that the next guy gets to build his team from the ground up and doesn't get stuck with anyone he doesn't want.

How many more coaches is it going to take?

It might take only one head coach if Jerry would put his damn ego aside and stop hiring puppets and go back to the formula he had when he bought the team in 89 and hire a solid HC and allow them to make all the football moves.

Cool beans.

The only thing I'd say is that every team has talent. Parcells even found some players in the wreckage when he got here, and they weren't necessarily the ones a lot of people thought could play. I think any decent coach wants to survey things when he arrives so he doesn't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Doubt that JJ lets that happen but there is always hope.

Everyone in the NFL has talent, but Peyton Manning has more talent than Tony Romo - would you agree? How is that Manning is throwing an average of 3 TDs per game with a backup LT? Do you think Romo would do that with Parnell in the lineup?

Romo may have one of the brightest football minds but he's not translating that onto the field. I've completely lost faith in him and these last few years don't show any signs of improvement, in fact they show regression.

My fear is that the next guy gets stuck with guys that JJ wants to stay and we wash, rinse, and repeat the same.

And he never should have ... cause when Parcells started winning GM Jerry stepped in and went for a player the coach hated ... T.O.

And Parcells after that was done with this franchise.

Yeah, the core of this team is heading down. Just as it does with all 'cores.' Do they do a gradual slide or fall off the cliff? I don't know which is worse. The gradual slide will kill the cap and any chance of puttting something together in the next two or three years with middle of the road draft picks and no money for FAs. The fall off the cliff would kill the cap for a year and maybe the team could recover with some high draft picks and good FA signings.

Personally, I think the team gets two more good years from Romo and one more good year from Ware. I really don't see Witten playing much more at the level we all have seen and expect. Age just gets to all of us.
