Theory on Romo's back

Several months.

He had the surgery in the middle of April. He started training camp in July. 3 months is a few, not several IMO. And it wasn't like he missed 3 months straight of practices. He missed about 12 days of on field OTA's and a minicamp combined. But he wasn't bed ridden. There's a May 22nd article from Todd Archer talking about how Romo already had been doing some bike, elliptical and weight lifting a month later.

I don't think it matters when he first started practicing with the recovery. I think it matters when he was subjected to getting hit.

I still think it was a Pilonidal cyst earlier and wonder if it was correlated with the herniation. I read somewhere once that the cyst could possibly cause a herniation from the area and direction of the cyst. I don't know if this is accurate or not.

Matter of fact, I don't think it is correlated.

My assumption would be a synovial cyst, it would indicate that there is/was an issue with degeneration of the discs, which would also indicate a likely hood to herniate.

How would taking out a bag of puss take several months to heal? I'm no doctor but based on being a patient I don't see it. There must have been some muscle or nerve pain in addition to healing of the incision.

Depends on what the cyst actually was
The term "cyst" is just for the general public
There can be cysts around the spinal cord that get very close to the cord and require complex surgery

So it is not that far fetched that he may have taken longer to recover from a cyst surgery

most of that is wishful thinking. More likely Romo had bad back before season started and that would explain the ridiculous recovery period for cyst removal. That would also explain why Romo was going out of his way this season to avoids hits and was throwing off his back foot more often. Regardless of how and why...the reality is that Dallas now has gargantuan contract on books for 34 year old QB coming off back surgery. This is on heels of another ridiculous situation in which player refused to play for owner (ratliff) and a league penalty for contract terms (austin contract). Its virtually impossible to be anything more than mediocre team with all of that going on.

This is of course accurate as well
Hopefully he recovers

Yea, a better scenario for sure.

Like any other QB, the first preseason game he played.

I think the cyst removal was more than what met the eyes.

Me too.

He was out for a very long time for a mere cyst removal.

I'm wondering if there was some sort of procedure to his back that involved the disk at that time.

Another words..

Not a cyst procedure but a disk procedure..

..and whatever they did..

It didn't last.

Babe said this morning they might as well have called the cyst a pregnancy.[/quote]

That's funny.

I know that plenty are suspecting a big cyst cover up but I think I have a much more sound theory.

Tony did have a cyst removed.

Then he hurt his ribs. We all saw that he had less zip and we threw short way more than normal. He got the zip back for a couple of games but took a big hit and started having some accuracy issues.

I am thinking he had a compensation injury from the ribs that caused some back issues and the grab and torque against Washington finally made the thing herniate.

If that is the case hopefully the surgery fixed it and he won't have problems going forward.

Yep way less zip and strength.. He was awesome against Denver and then nada...

This all makes sense

That type of cyst Is unique to the crack of one's *** and removing a cyst would not cause a herniated disk. Romo likely caused his injury by getting in a weird position and fighting against it..weightlifting, getting sacked and trying to pull away, or a variety of other things.
