The rankings will change a lot before the draft, but at #17 or #16, it seems that the Cowboys pick would be currently ranked in the top 50.

I've taken a top 50 list and removed all of the positions that I think are unlikely to be the the pick. The Cowboys tend to use trades to align need with BPA.

I agree with the bold. I would add Ogbuehi who I bet has a great combine. Mosley who allows the moving of Lee outside to extend his career and strengthens them at two spots with one pick. Shazier a playmaker they sorely lack who plays the Derrick Books position. Beasley a pass rusher they sorely need. Also Dix, we all know the safety needs, who I have seen ranked in the teens.

If any of the top 4 OTs fall, it would be very difficult to pass. They all have the power and build to also play Guard initially if that is a bigger need. Flozell played Guard as a rookie.

Tuitt: Big with decent but not elite athleticism.
Ealy: Would be a terrific fit at Strong-Side DE. Not sure if he is the super quick athlete that might be desired at Weak-Side DE.
Nix: Big with decent athleticism for his size, but not a typical Marinelli type DL.
Hageman: Big and super athletic, but production has been limited. Rumored to lack intensity, but that's just rumors as of now.
Murphy: Productive with great "motor" but possibly limited athleticism.
Dix: ?

your list has Zack Martin (ND) as a guard, but he played tackle for them....I think he is a brawler-type and wouldn't be a bad choice for RT if they chose to go in that direction (BPA on the line)

Out of curiosity, where are the quarterbacks on the list? It's your thread, and I'm cool with including or not including them, but out of curiosity, where are they in the top 50 ?

Between his smaller school and how clubs value OTs and QBs, I think Khalil Mack's current ranking is going to come down by draft day. I see him as much more likely than Greg Robinson or Cyrus Kouandijo. But I mostly agree with everything else though.

If DL and OL were picked clean by pick 16/17, I could see Ryan Shazier solidly on our board. I see a super instinctive, super competitive, every down WLB who will probably test off the charts at the combine/pro day. We'd probably be trading down though.

I don't think Jerry has a worry with the O line

I think if we do OT it will be late an I would want a swing tackle

besides Free is not that bad IMO

Year Base S. Bonus Cap Hit Dead
2014 3,500,000 3,020,000 - 6,520,000 7,000,000

so what we eat 6.5 mil

i doubt that the first pick isnt either, Nix,Tuitt, Murphy, Ealy , or Hageman.

Unless they trade out any other pick would be a foolish one, unless one of the top QBs fall

a dark horse for me is Clinton dix,i bet he is a consideration considering the abysmal safety play.

Trade down for Shazier, trade up for Donald. I don't think he'll make it to pick 50. Good list!

I really like Van Noy and would consider him if there is no obvious DL available. He could fill several different voids for the D.

No way on OT. Robinson is elite and will go before we draft. The Bama kid has slow feet and is a round 3 type. He almost single-handedly lost that game to OU.

OT IMHO not an option w pick 1.

I think it is DE, DT, S outside shot at QB then trades to get to one of those positions.

Free isn't great but he's not a major concern and we have some OT depth.
OL might be our strongest group so you take them for depth and value. Not a great round 1 option.

If they trade down like for Frederick that would make sense. Not really a good fit at 16ish... Put at 25 while adding a 3rd. Sure!

I'd say less than 10% chance that we take an OT in round 1, even if one of the great ones were to fall to us. Just not Jerry's style. We're going defense with the first pick. Book it.

Tuitt
Ealy
Nix
Clinton Dix

Would be happy with either of these 4 players

I wouldn't sleep on OLB here - I don't think this staff likes Carter very much and I expect we look to trade him -- likely for someone else's disappointment on the DL.

Holloman is going to push Carter for the job in training camp.

There is an interview with the LB coach where he indicated that Holloman graded out really well in the final game.

I doubt they trade Carter. The Cowboys don't like to give up on draft picks. See Arkin, David.

I would like this combo

Sign
DT Linval Joseph
DE Michael Bennett

Draft
DE Kony Ealy Rd 1
DT Aaron Donald Rd 2
