Spagnola tweet about Telvin Smith FSU

A 215-lb LB will have a hard time staying healthy as a LB. No way he can handle a season of going up against the NFLs best athletic OL who are over 300+ lbs. If he plays LB, he will get trucked by a lot of RBs and TEs. His best bet is to lose about 10 pounds (which he probably will automatically lose as the season drags on) and move to safety. Some Rookies have a hard time keeping the weight up as the season grinds on.

The Browns are already telling OLB Mingo to put on weight.

If he can run a 4.41 he does not need to lose weight to play safety. Kam Chancellor at 6'03 232 manages just fine.

it can be done, the super bowl mvp malcolm smith was around that weight when drafted.
He was also a 7th rounder though if I'm not mistaken. There's no guarantee that just b/c one player could make that kind of transition that another can as well.

And I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that Malcolm isn't really all that good against the run. Might even have been during the Super Bowl.

Which is it? You know whomever we draft is going to suck because Jerry is the GM. You know this right? I wish we never existed. Screw the Cowboys!

Talk about liberating. Whew!

Lol! Dallas must count on him unless they can draft his replacement.

would end coverage woes but at that size he might be picked on in run game.

is team really giving up on bruce carter?

I don't think Carter is the problem. Lee is the problem. He's brittle as glass....and as soon as he is out w/ injury... it starts the musical chairs. IMO Carter should be your MLB. I have no problem starting....

I don't really think it matters what everybody here thinks. Smith is going to somebody in the 2nd round IMO.

He won't be playing WLB in the NFL anytime soon. If he's drafted early it'll be to play safety, period. Otherwise he's a nickel linebacker, that's it. You can't bring him in on first and second down, he'll get killed. He killed his draft stock coming in 20 pounds underweight for a WLB. A WLB has to do more than just run around the field without taking on blocks.

Lance Briggs, the WLB in Marinelli's Chicago scheme is 240+. KJ Wright is 240+. Lavonte David is pretty light in the pants and he's still 230+.

No, he can play MLB in a Tampa2 IMO. I mean, he needs to be at about 230 at least but he can play that position IMO.

There is no question that needs to add some bulk but he plays bigger than he is and reacts exceptionally well to the play.

I have made mention of carter playing mlb and backing up lee for the 6 games that lee plays. good mention I agree.

The WOLB spot in our scheme is pretty important. Carter looked overwhelmed playing the position. And a lot of that appeared to be mental. He really needs a position with simple responsibilities. I do not know what they expected from him at UNC in their 4-3, but he looked so much more natural playing inside in a 3-4.

Why do people continue to think Mosely is a SLB????? did you even watch the combine? The guy dropped everything in pass drills. He can't cover TEs!!!!! He's strictly a MLB...and a skinny one @ that. Was really disappointed in Mosely today. He skipped out on numerous drills to not expose himself today. He's just another fraud Alabama LBer.

I agree. He is more of a middle linebacker. If people think he is a strong side LB it is mostly because they want him to be.
