Mike fisher teases why Hatcher sending Marinelli love notes

I don't know what to think. I get Crawford coming back and selvie playing well last season but it doesn't change the fact that hatcher and ware are up there in age. If we draft d line heavy then I'm happy. W a possible oline move and or safety then it's ok but if we mess this up again. We're all gonna melt down.

Spending money on old vets on a team that isn't a contender. .. Smart...

I mean, it's not any worse than having a gaping hole at the position. OVERspending is a different story, but right now all we're talking about are rumors of negotiations.

People love Marnelli and want Jones to let coaches have a say. Well from what is being written, this is a Marnelli endorsement. This is his defense and if he wants Hatch over Melton then more power to him. He has coached both so I trust his judgement. Don't rule out both, you never know???

Draft is still coming, everyone in the organization has said the defense needs to get better. DL will get some love in May. IMO

marinelli is worried about this year
jones should be worried about building for the long term, not just this year

when you pay aging players, you pay for injuries, just look at ware and spencer

this is jerry's problem, his football IQ is so low, he has no idea what he is doing

Garrett is going to fail here and I would rather the next coach have some money to play with instead of having a bunch of overpriced vets sucking up all of our resources.

We need to cut ties with these guys and start rebuilding that DL.

I agree with paying for age is no good, but as I stated draft is still coming and I believe we will get a couple of good DL.

the problem is that our management is VERY short-sighted and has no plan
so if they resign ware and hatcher and feel that spencer "will be ready" on the cheap by start of season, they will largely ignore DL and go with safety, CB, WR, QB in the draft

then will point to "injuries and inexperience" when we stink during the season

I'm shaking my head. Why invest in older vets? Same methods used every year and fans wonder why this team has problems during the regular season.

Because we're a dumb team.

If we were in the playoffs every once in awhile and winning some games then i'd be all for it. It would be worth it to keep our Superbowl hopes alive.

Right now it's nothing but 8-8 with end of the season failures.

Let the Dez's and Sean Lee's of the team step up and let these old vets go.

Listen, D. Ware is one of my all time favorite players but he is starting to break down. I don't want to be paying 7-10 mill a year for a guy who is going to have to be a part time player just to stay effective.

Hatcher has 1 really good season and we're going to give him a big paycheck? Really?

ANY DL in this system is a part-time player.
The DE everyone was gaga over was a part-time player and non-starter in Seattle.
He was about as good in college as .. BEN BASS.
He got 16m guaranteed for 23.5 career sacks in 6 seasons... that's an average of 4 per year... LOL.

Hatcher had one great season and had one season in a 4-3 as a 3T. He may not be as costly as we think.

Change for change's sake is stupid. Hatcher and Ware are still quite good players. VERY hard to upgrade from either guy.

The draft should provide a key addition or two and we should be playing 8 guys.
Ware will have to take a pay cut and Hatcher isn't getting franchise caliber money.
But those two players are the least of our worries IF they are retained.

Once he gets his money, I doubt he cares if he's the 3 or the 1. Just my hunch though!

It would be stupid to play him at a position that he doesn't like -- he doesn't like it for a reason - he isn't a good fit for it.

3 good seasons. The first two were in a 3-4 so 4.5 sacks is pretty darn good.

and we wonder why we are mediocre
bring back and aging one year wonder (hatcher), another aging player who has been injured last 2 years (ware) and perhaps resign another injured player on the cheap (spencer)

then go into the season and have to deal with "unexpected" injuries that "devastated" the season

You sound like you've seen this movie before?

o_O

As a Defensive Tackle, I think we can assume that Jason Hatcher will sign for much less than Michael Bennett did in Seattle.
