The 49ers have a very crowded backfield, and LaMichael James hasn't seen much playing time in SF. The word at ESPN is that SF is shopping him, http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...49ers-shopping-little-used-rb-lamichael-james.

Philly picked up Sproles. What would you give up to bring in LaMichael James as our change of pace back and insurance against Dunbar's injury. Certainly, James comes in with much more fanfare than Dunbar and has some success as a return man.

Would the big play RB, who was a 2nd round pick in 2012 be worth a 4th or 5th round draft pick? I'm sure everyone would love a great deal and would say, "offer them one of our 7ths," but I don't think that's realistic.

I'm not that impressed with him. I don't see him as even a Dunbar.

I kinda see Dunbar as a tweener. He has the shiftiness and speed to be what you're wanting and he has enough power to run thru arm tackles. But Dunbar's not the same back as Sproles or the kid out of OSU whom I covet.

I thought James would be an effective change of pace player coming out, but I'd rather just get De'Anthony Thomas late at this point.

I'm pretty much against giving up picks for underachieving RBs. The guy seems to run upright, lacks strength to be an effective blocker, and has a history of fumbling. He's strictly a speed threat, not worth more than a 6th or 7th round pick. Backup RBs are a dime a dozen these days.

It wouldn't surprise me if Dallas picked up a bellcow-type RB in this draft. We may lack a viable RB backup for DeMarco Murray. Joseph Randle is just pedestrian, IMO. Not convinced the staff has as much confidence in him as they'd like us to think they do.

Right now Randle is adequate. Marginally. It's very difficult to run the ball up the middle anyway. You just have to have speed and I don't see that in Randle.

There are several players with the same skill set that will cost a minimal choice to acquire. Unless SF is looking for a player swap to get rid of him, what would be the point? He is not that great.

I'd prefer a bigger, bruising back who could invigorate the offense while wearing down the defense.

Give me half of this guy and I'll be happy.

Why would we trade for him when Dunbar is already here?

I wouldn't trade for him but I see Dunbar as a tweener back. He's definitely got that speed, quickness and elusiveness. But he's pretty strong. My only con for this is I'm not certain how durable he is if he had to carry the ball more than 6-10 times a game. I'd love to see him get 10-15 touches a game maybe more if you give him enough passes.

James has been hurt a bunch too. You can only have so many change of pace backs.

I would really like, d'anthony thomas but what and where is he projected too go? What if 49ers want a late pick for James, like a 7th? Randle too me looks more and weighs more like a receiver, if anything Thomas was listed as a receiver until his final year at Oregon. If we have a chance at him I say get him, but both James and Thomas had very comparable careers while at Oregon besides James always being a rb and D. Thomas being more of a offensive weapon.

Can he play DL?

Yeah, he can play DL. I doubt if he can play it well.
The 'can he play DL' line is getting pretty old. Can't you come up with anything slightly more original? Yeah, we all get it that the DL was decimated with injury last year and DL is a need. But, it is not the one and only need which trumps everything. Hopefully, Crawford and Bass stay healthy and play well. And the team brought in Melton, Mincey, and McClain.

What, are we supposed to draft 10 DL and bring in nothing but FA DL just to make you happy? Are you going to moan and groan on draft day when we pass on this year's "Sharif?"

Maybe we can trade Coakley for him ;)

Not interested in trading for a RB when the upcoming draft if full of them. Not interested in a change of pace RB.I want one that can get yards regardless of running styles and one that can carry the load as a starter if need be.
