Not too strong
Not a cover safety
Plays Church's position
Played against weak competition

So why does everyone here seem so eager to burn a 2nd round pick on the guy?

I haven't heard anyone say they wanted him. More people have said they want Joyner in the 3rd or Dix/Pryor in the 1st.

Certainly is a cover safety. Maybe the best in the draft.

But yes, lots' of love. Just saw he's the top pet cat so far on that thread.

Yeah I thought one of his strengths was his cover ability and that at Northern Illinois (yes, I know) he actually would slide down and cover slot guys.

Where did someone come up with him not being a cover safety?

The whole point of Ward is he is a cover safety

Ward is a cover Safety. NILL used him as a cover safety in the slot. You dont get more cover safety then that.

Ward is basically what Dallas wants Wilcox to turn into.

Not too strong: Strong enough to get the job done.
Not a cover safety: Best cover Safety in the draft.
Plays Church's position: No. He'd play FS, and allow Dallas to move JJ Wilcox to SS and use Church in the nickle. This is Dallas' ideal lineup.
Played against weak competition: You can only play against who's on your schedule.

So why does everyone here seem so eager to burn a 2nd round pick on the guy? He's Mike Mayock's 3rd rated Safety.

Number one safety to me for what Dallas needs. He and Wilcox would make a great tandem. As far as competition..w here this every year and every year some small school kid turns out to be great. We just released one named DWare.

I didn't like what I saw in Wilcox last year at all . Bad angles while in pursuit , poor tackling , bad playing the ball in the air . I thought Heath outplayed him and so did the staff . Hope Wilcox has a better year though .Church is a lock to start IMO he had a very good season .

Very good season by Church? Check his pass deflections and ints..

Chrurch had a good season . He is an excellent tackler , solid at covering TE's except for the jimmy Graham's of the world . He has done a solid job and will continue to be the starter . Go watch the game tape . Wilcox on the other hand cost us so much they benched him .
Church was a top 3 defender for us last year .
