Yeah I heard about this a couple days ago, pretty interesting. I was a big fan of Shazier in a trade down but it's crazy that he got picked directly before them, they obviously didn't think that was possible.

It seems that the guys we are after never get to us, they always seem to be taken right before we want to, I've heard of too many situations like that. I bet this factored into the urgency of the Lawrence trade. Along with Barr and Donald being long gone.

I think Donald was picked just beore Pitt took Shazier.. so he def wasn't long gone. I remember sitting there with 3 picks to go before Dallas, and Donald and Martin were still there and thinking to myself that neither would make it to us because that's just the way things usually seem to work for my team. Wouldn't you know it, Donald gets taken with the very next pick, lol. At least we got Martin though.. if not him, Ha Ha Dix was the next guy i wanted.

Those discussing Donald...the 3rd used for Lawrence could have easily gotten us Donald in the 1st, value-wise.

One of the teams everyone thought we could move up with took him for themselves. The NYGs didn't want to miss out on Beckham. And we would still need a RDE.

In Pitt, Shazier will be very good because Tomlin is the coach. He will be a top LB in the league with his defensive mindset. In Dallas, he would have been about as good as Bruce Carter or Wilbur. Guys full of potential but don't get that extra defensive coaching to get them to the next level. Martin will fit right in and with Smith, and Frederick. We should dominate on the OL...

I've seen this repeated over and over again this weekend and really don't get what point you are trying to make. Players we wanted were snatched up before us, but that happens to teams at all points of the draft. 6-10 teams lose out on franchise guys, 10-6 lose out on guys in the teens, 12-4 teams lose out on guys that have first round grades.

8-8 is just good enough to keep a team from getting the elite talent. That is the point. There are usually only a handful of top players and they are snatched up with the top ten picks. At 16, you may get a talented player, but rarely an elite talented player unless one slips through the cracks. Finishing 8-8 is the worst of both worlds. Not good enough to be a contender and too good to be in the position to get elite talent.

Sorry but you can't compare tomlin to kiffin or Maranelli . Pittsburgh defense has regressed under tomlin in my eyes .

That's your opinion . I think it was poor drafting , bad coaching , bad personnel decisions . Make all the excuses for the guy .kiffin is a defensive legend .tomlin is a nobody .

Wait what tomlin has won a sb and has been to another one. Kiffin is a fading geizer who should have hung it up years ago.

Like others have said, be thankful Pitt took him.

I am not a fan of Shazier, especially at 16. Would take Martin over him 100 times out of 100 times.

Yea, that usually how it is my friend. However, we lucked out this year.

Zach Martin is considered "elite talent", Kiper had Martin as a top 10 pick in the draft.

I'd have been happy with Shazier as well. But I have zero issue with the fact that we got Martin. I like that pick a lot.

It's funny the last highlight of Shazier in that clip against Iowa was actually a "lowlight" of him unable to get off a block. I'm pretty pleased Pittsburgh picked him before us. Watched a couple of this guy's games and he was one guy I absolutely did not want the Cowboys to draft. Too easily blocked and was often on the ground and missing tackles.

Same here. Pittsburgh took a bullet for us. If you really want to see Shazier at his worst, go watch the Orange Bowl against Clemson.

He was getting killed by linemen getting into him on the second level and watching Sammy Watkins truck him several times was pretty brutal.

I believe Mayock did as well. I'm very happy with the Martin pick.

I agree, the Martin pick was the smart move. I am glad Shazier was snatched before us as well. Pryor is no all world talent or gurantee. Martin seems like as close of a lock as you can get and this team can't afford to miss on 1st rounders.

Well, you can't take the guy if he isn't there. I like the player we drafted anyway.

I think that was part of the frustration in what we had to give up. That 3rd was enough to move up in the 1st! To use it in the second showed incompetence and panic.

I thought it was posted after the 1st round was over, that the Rams were not interested in trading. They really liked Donald, so they took him.

Yes, but it also indicated that everyone knew that edge rushers were in scarce supply and if we wanted Lawrence that badly, the Commanders could extort the pick.
