Horn's RB Bergeron gone? Is this a big deal for Texas?

Okay, so Bergeron was the 3rd option. And yep, looks like Strong is cleaning house. Glad to see it.

Senior RB Joe Bergeron Dismissed from the Team

Texas senior running back Joe Bergeron was dismissed from the team on Thursday, according to several sources. Bergeron has the option to appeal the dismal, which could lead to a reverse of his release within the next 10 days. It is unknown if Bergeron will appeal.

Overstreet and Collins were also dismissed. Fans are going to scream but this is what has to happen. Texas needs to get back to being about winning football and not about players.

Mac was a good guy but he kinda let the inmates run the asylum...

Strong is changing that culture... for the better in my opinion...

Strong inherited a house that was in desperate need of cleaning. I have no doubt that he will get that program turned around.

HornsDigest.com has also learned that two more players are under review for possible team rules violations and that a final decision on those two players could come soon.

The last time Strong dismissed players from the team - two were kicked off the team right before spring football - it was the result of a failed random drug test, sources told HornsDigest.com.

One source told HD another random drug test was recently administered.

If the most recent dismissals were the result of a failed drug test, the source said the players would be allowed to file an appeal. It's unclear if any appeals have been made or where any such appeals would be in the process, the source told HD.

Charlie Strong has made it clear he will not tolerate violations of his 5 core values: 1) Honesty 2) Treat women with respect 3) No drugs 4) No stealing 5) No guns.

There are going to be 5 more, from what is being rumored. Might be playing Ironman Football this year. LOL....

Horns have cut 6 players in the last two days, plus 1 has left the team:

Kendall Sanders (charged with rape)
Montrel Meander (charged with rape)
Chevoski Collins ("violation of team rules")
Jalen Overstreet ("violation of team rules")
Joe Bergeron ("violation of team rules")
Josh Turner ("violation of team rules")
Kendall Thompson (left due to conscussions)

This is getting into Aggie territory now:

Kameron Miles ("violation of team rules")
Isiaiah Golden (charged with aggravated robbery)
Darian Claiborne (charged with aggravated robbery)
Gavin Stansbury (left team, but was previously charged with assault on Rice campus)

...Plus other offseason incidents (but not cut): Kenny Hill (public intoxication), Howard Matthews (failure to appear in court), Edward Pope (failure to appear in court), Ricky Seals Jones (disorderly conduct).

Interesting to read some of the college football boards - when A&M dismisses a player who breaks the law (or team rules), it's accused of having an out-of-control program. When Texas does the same thing, they're "cleaning house" and it's a good thing.

Actually two more were cut earlier this offseason from the Horns as well, for violation of team rules:

Chet Moss
Leroy Scott

I don't know how Strong will do but filling Mack Shoes will not be an easy task. Mack was 158 and 45 at Texas winning 10 of 15 bowl including 2 national championship games and 1 National Championship win.

As a Horns fan, I love this. This team needed an overhaul. I don't expect much on the field this year, but Strong is laying the groundwork for a decent future.

Sumlin has been there for 3 years and recruited these guys. Strong recruited none of these guys. He put the team on notice that it would be his way or the highway on day one. It was reported immediately that some guys had trouble fitting in with his ways. So to those that follow UT football the rape case was a surprise, but the other names aren't and were already in the doghouse. There are others that won't be that big of a surprise if they are cut. HUGE difference, IMO. You're seeing guys that didn't get with the program of the new regime vs guys that were recruited by and have been under Sumlin their entire college football careers.

The most encouraging thing, is hearing players like Quandre Diggs and RB Malcolm Brown speaking out in support of Strong and his my way or the highway policies.

Mac was an excellent coach for many years.

I think the team needed a change of direction though. It just didn't seem to be working anymore for a program that really has no excuses not to be one of the very best.
