Dallas allowed 432 points last year. I keep hearing how this is the worst.

The Falcons (4-12) allowed 443 points.
The Jaguars (4-12) allowed 449 points.
The Raiders (4-12) allowed 453 points.
The Commanders (3-13) and the Bears (8-8) both allowed 478 points.
The Vikings (5-10-1) allowed 480 points.

Not defending the Cowboys awful Defense, but aren't those worse?

that is like asking if there are different grades of DOG CRAP.

So bringing in 10 new defensive linemen (Brent will make 11) is zilch?

Who are these 10 defensive linemen and how many will actually make the team? Signing a bunch of undrafted free agents and NFL journeymen doesn't impress me much.

Well we couldn't sign any good defensive players b/c Jerrah ruined our cap.
Starting with 09 i wouldn't have drafted that horrible class. I would have drafted completely different.

Wow! Cowboys should hire you. Such insightful analysis.

Well get a billon dollars and then go buy a team. You can then show everyone how smart you are.

If I tell you the plyaers I would have drafted you are just going to say hindsight is 20/20. No man it's called not being a moron something Jerrah has no concept of. Lets trade up for D-Law when we have one of the worst depths in NFL and give away our 2nd round pick. So smart.

So now we have both a QB problem and a defense problem.

It can be hard to keep all of the Rowdys straight but I believe this guy was another one who fantasized about drafting Manziel so he could run around and throw jump balls to Dez every down. True to his moniker, he likely would have handed Dez one of these "ridiculous" contracts he's complaining about as well.

Yards allowed is a terrible way to measure defense. Points allowed is a better, but still bad, way to measure defense.

We allowed 2.31 points per defensive drive, which was 30th in the league. There's a tightly bunched group of 6 teams from 25th to 30th. The Bears and Atlanta, at 31 and 32, were much worse. So that's probably the most appropriate assessment: bottom quarter, but not historically bad.

What worries me is that the takeaways dried up as the season went on. We had 19 in the first 8 games, and 9 in the second 8 games. The takeaways were helping to keep all those yards from turning into points. You'd rather a see the performance trending up intra-season than trending down, in terms of projecting forward into the next season.

Says the contract specialist.
Bet those 4 years of 6th grade rocked for you.:pjk

Why don't you say something of substance instead of all these generalities?

You were asked what you would have done. So we know you wouldn't have given the QB a contract that looks more and more like the norm for QBs at his level than something unusual. Ok , we get that.

But what would you have done for the defense?

And btw, many here think the defense WILL be better. But carry on.

Oh thank God! Now I can rest easy

The following did not play for Dallas last year:

Demarcus Lawrence
Henry Melton
Ben Gardner
Davon Coleman

Ken Bishop
Jeremy Mincey
Terrell McClain
Tyrone Crawford
Anthony Spencer
(played a few snaps in one game)
Ben Bass
Josh Brent (maybe)

To go with:
George Selvie
Nick Hayden
Martez Wilson

Caesar Rayford

(And Kyle Wilber can play DE on third downs if needed.)

They need 9-10 guys from that list, and yes, it's far better than the literal nobodies that came through last year. I bolded the guys I think have a good chance to make big contributions.

Let's see, Dallas is the only team to draft injury prone players, Right? Not hardly. Having the worst defense (possibly) prevents playoffs, Right? Guess when Green Bay won the Super Bowl a few years ago going 15-1 and with a defense that ranked 32nd was just a mirage. Guess all the other teams that draft never draft players that don't make it, Right? Very not true. What is right is that no team gets the press as Dallas does. No team gets the scrunity that Dallas does. No team gets critized more than Dallas. Is it to long since we have been in the playoffs or won a playoff game or been to the Super Bowl, absolutely doubled. But the other side of that coin is that we could be Cleveland fans who only just hope for a 8-8 season to be thankful or Jacksonville fans who just hope to win 5 games, etc. etc. Sure it upsets me that we have to many injuries like Lee out for the year or Lawrence out for 8-10 weeks but how would you like to be Indianpolis right now with two RBs gone, a WR gone, starting OG gone, etc.etc. We can complain about Romo but would you really rather have Eli Manning or Bradford or God forbid Geno Smith.

Things may not be rosey but at least there is a flower on the top of our rose bush even if the thorns get us sometime. GO BOYS.

We traded our second round pick, plus the third round pick for a second round pick in return.
So we gave away a third round pick.

Funny, you say Jerry did zlitch to improve the defense, then you bring up that we drafted a DE, our biggest weakness defensively, in the second round.
Let me guess, it's Jerry's fault that D-Law's foot is broken.

Very little came out of that 09 draft for any team.

This D won't scare anyone that's for sure.

I think they'll be awful & on the field a lot but gosh they were so bad last year it's hard to imagine them being worse.

in yards allowed with 415.3 per game we were 32nd. Thats the stat they refer to when they say we were the worst defense. 415 yards on average? In comparison Seattle who had the best defense only allowed 274.

Anthony Spencer, Tyrone Crawford, and Ben Bass were all on the roster last year at this time. Josh Brent is a pipe dream. The other guys at the bottom of your list were on the roster last year. There is a huge lack of depth on the defensive side of the ball, and we haven't even looked at the mess at safety and linebacker.

Yards allowed is just stupid. It says nothing.

However, my eyes don't lie, and that was one horrible defense last year.

However, gone are the defensive linemen of last year. Wynn, Nevis, Cohen, Brown, Vega, Jones........wow.
