Yes the starting D was fine tonight missing both starting DTs and 2 of your top 3 CBs. Once they started shuffling guys in, everything fell apart. No depth.

Depth usually means you put in one or two backups that are surrounded by starters and they play reasonably well. Depth does not mean our entire corps of 2nd and 3rd teamers have to play like world beaters when they are in playing alongside all the other 2nd and 3rd teamers.

I don't know how good or bad we will be. We haven't seen anything resembling a full roster.

We say that every year and every year injuries and other factors cause these backups to have to play more than usual. It's a process.

Defense wasn't bad tonight. The 1st team anyway. I mean its just hard to judge this defense when our starters aren't out there. We're not at a full deck. And our backups are getting some much needed reps. Before anyone jumps off the ledge over this defense you have to factor in we haven't technically seen this defense yet. Or the one that will see 1st week of the season.

JMO but there is reason to be much more optimistic after tonights game. It was far from perfect but much better than last week.

I agree. But the sample size is only 2. Are they as bad as last week or as decent as this week? That's my confusion. But regardless of how many preseason games it is, we won't ever really know until the season starts. But i'll say that i'm glad they performed a little better than get worse.

They will be decent but you are right about not finding out for a few weeks. Really once we get to week 5 or so and DLaw back we will know tons more.

Right. And even when the season starts its going to take time to progress.

I wonder where does this guy Minter fit in. Its just preseason but when a guy that young just comes in and makes that type of impact and has that type of nastiness...you have to take notice.

It wasn't against starters but still, you have to take notice. He needs all the snaps he can get the next 2 weeks because he might make the final 53. Loved what he brought tonight.

You're right it wasn't against the starters but it seems like some guys won't even show anything even against the backups at times. Its hard to make a argument for Hayden getting more pt than him right now.

Selvie came on around the same time last year in the preseason. Minter at least showed that he should have a spot on the team.

I think you ought to give them until December. It's gonna take awhile for all the new components to gel, and maybe the injuries won't hit so hard this year.

I'll watch no matter what - wouldn't feel right rooting for someone else. They're my team, but OTOH I don't own any stock in them, not do I risk any betting losses. I've learned not to get so pi$$ed off over this game that I cannot control. (It took me a few years)

I followed the game thread tonight, and I've never seen so much need to express negativity and disrespect.

I mean, this is practice, and it's not even October yet. We used to routinely lose almost all of our preseason games, then contend every year.

If fans want to express so much dislike, I wish they would troll a team that deserves it, like the Deadskins or the Sheagles.
