I really don't care one way or the other whether we get Brent back however I think it's a shame that the league offices can't make the decision in a reasonable amount of time. There is no reason for it to drag out.

Didn't 49r's get word about Aldon Smith already? I don't want Brent back but couldn't Goodell let us know so we can move on already? Doesn't he work for the owners, including Jones? I don't understand why Jerry doesn't even try to assert his rights. I wonder if he was bullied in school too?

I don't think it's been officially announced about Aldon Smith yet.
Knowing Goodell's bias against the Cowboys, and favors the 49er's. He will wait until after game one, then announce any suspensions for either player.
I believe they did this some years ago, announced a suspension, right before game 1, the player appealed, and they let him play against us, only to deny the appeal after the game. Even though thety had ample time to deny it before the game.
But they were very quick to suspend Irvin for 5 games and quickly denied his appeal, IIRC.

I think you're right. I remember that as well.

How do you know that Jerry doesn't already know? The question was worded as to when we, the fans, would know.

I've kept this thought in the back of my head the last few weeks as well. I do not trust that man or the league in general when dealing with anything that has to do with our chances of winning or losing a game.

Niners have always been a darling franchise for the league and the Cowboys have always been rebels. I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow found a way to sneak Aldon Smith into that game. Seriously, what's taking so long? I was reading that a decision was supposed to come last week and any appeals would only take a week. We've only got 3 weeks left until the season starts. If we don't get a decision in the next 7-10 days, Smith is going to play in that game. That would make me sick to my stomach considering all of his transgressions the last year.

Just so I understand, you're of the belief that someone told Jerry and he magically developed the ability to keep it from the fans???? How long have you been a fan of this team.

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist but I've really come to believe there is a league office bias against us.

Goodell has met with Brent and he probably has his investigation team tracking down info on Brent.

There will probably be an announcement right about week 1. Wouldn't shock me to see Brent get 4 games but it also wouldn't shock me if it was more.
There is precedent there. This is the 2nd or 3rd intoxicated manslaughter charge the NFL has had to deal with.

It can be hard to tell with Broaddus if he has inside info or he is guessing. He does a fair bit of both but this sounds like inside info.
If they've told Brent something, he has no reason to tell the masses; especially if the plan is to announce it as close to week 1 as possible so it gets washed over quickly.
He can ramp up work outs and keep contact with the Cowboys.
His handler is a Cowboys conduit.

It is hilarious that the vast majority of people who dislike Brent have done far worse yet wish to see his ability to work taken away. Glass houses....

The NFL really need to hurry-up with these decisions. They are really doing a disservice to the teams who have to plan. The Browns in particular, with the Gordon situation. I know that they are just delaying it as long as possible to stave off the comparisons to the awful ruling on Rice and I bet they will announce the Gordon ruling like 5:30 on a Friday.

What about Isray? Its been like 5 months.

This is really unacceptable on the NFL's part. I dont really care about Brent, but if Gordon is getting a year, his preseason next year is now ruined. Its pathetic.

The NFLPA should be pushing for a timeline in all future decisions.
But again I think we are seeing part of the penalty take place before the decision is announced and the offending party is aware of far more than we are.

In the Brent case since he is retired Goodell can punish him without punishing him by delaying his reinstatement.
Brent(nor the Cowboys) is not in a position to publicly complain.

The problem is that they aren't allowing him to practice yet other guys who have gotten in trouble are in camp and playing in preseason games. The difference is that Brent "retired" but by him doing that he helped the league and basically gave himself a self imposed suspension. He didn't have to do that.

Good. I don't want anything to do with him. The defense will be turrrrible with or without Josh Brent on it.

No, they won't affect his next pre-season.
He'll get suspended through end of this year.
I think the fact the drug in question has been legalized in parts off the country complicate what would be a simple process.
At some point the NFL is probably going to pull testing for this drug and only penalize if arrested or convicted for using it IMHO.
Not sure they want to see Gordon sit a full year so it may make sense for Goodell to let him have a few weeks of playing time then announce the rest of the season ban.
I can imagine Gordon has a fairly good argument for appeal to reduce.

Again, not a problem at all.
He retired which was the a smart move but it also means he has to face the reinstatement process dictated by Goodell.

He had committed the major offense as a player.
It just is what it is.
Ultimately Brent will get back in the league if he can play and that's all he can ask of the process.

He wasn't going to leave jail and return to the team the same week.
