49ers 5 point favorites. Witten, Romo, Dez have to lead!

Who made Linehan the playcaller? Garrett? I don't think so. You and I both know Garrett would never give up playcalling completely on his own.

Garret has been talking about giving up play calling since his second year.

Get with the program.
He did not like Callahan as a play caller so he took over (basically).

I won't bet on this team through the Vegas lines, but I'll make a bet Garrett will not be calling plays this Sunday.

IIRC Garrett made a comment about him bringing in Linehan. I don't recall JJ saying it was all his idea.

I'm with the program. Its true that Garrett gave up the playcalling gradually but it was in his best interest....

I feel like Dallas always plays the opening game close, no matter who the opponent is. That adrenaline of the first game of the season I think is a big factor. I agree that this game will probably be close. Can't really remember last time we were blown out in an opener.

Does anyone know which starters the Niners will be missing? I know Bowman and A. Smith are out, but any other key players?

I think Dorsey is out, and they lost like 3 starters in the secondary.
They have 7 different starters on defense now compared to last year.
McDonald may or may not play de to recent arrest, I haven't heard.

Nobody can cover Dez. So you could ask me that every week. They'll blanket him with safety help and contain him the best they can.

Risen, and this isn't related to this post, do you actually believe that Jason Garrett gave up playcalling because he thought someone else was better? I don't.

You can't stop him - you can only hope to contain him.

Their defense is pretty depleted. With the players they lost to free agency during the offseason and with Smith, Bowman and Dorsey out, they are playing a bunch of JAGS. Our offense should move the ball on them and score points. The question is: Will this offense come out and be penalty prone like they have been for the last several years? Will Jason Garrett finally prove that he is capable of devising a game plan that focuses on our offensive strengths that exposes a defense with so many 2nd and 3rd stringers playing?

In my opinion, Garrett just needs to let Linehan comprise the offensive game plan and focus on game management because he needs to improve in that as well.

Ultimately, our their defense is a big weakness for them and that's hard to imagine considering what they have been in the past. We need to focus on stopping the run somehow and then again somehow get off the field on 3rd down. If we can make em' punt 4 or 5 times then we can win.

I try to not put money on Cowboy games, but I'm tempted to put a few bucks on Dallas +5. I'm not huge on SF this season. Missing some playmakers on defense, starting offense has looked atrocious at times this preseason. The only thing that worries me is that their run game could march up and down the field on our front 7. Even if that is the case though it should make for a low scoring game. My early prediction would be 23-20 9ers. Wouldn't be shocked to see us pull it out though.

SF by 5(which is really 8) since the game is in Dallas. That is too much for this opening game....take Dallas and the points

You didn't add that up correctly, lol

Edit...

I guess you meant on neutral field... Makes sense.. But not many neutral field gms in the nfl

11 point favs in Sf... Thats a ton

Just wanting an opinion from someone who probably knows more about this team than I do...

OK.
I do agree with Clint Eastwood on matters like this:
"A man must know his limitations."

Just don't go asking the Vatican what he thinks about Mohammed.
