Any word on Scandrick

the deal for a new drug policy isnt finished yet. could happen by sunday but this has been going on for a couple years so we shall see

Even if the deal goes thru it will not apply to current players suspensions imo. Scandrick gone 4 games.

Scandrick hasn't even been practicing for the 9'ers anyway, so even if by some miracle he could play, he probably would't get in the game very often.

About being able too play Sunday???

Depending on what article you read, you get a different story. Some say talks are happening but the NFL and NFLPA are no closer to an agreement. Then I've read both sides are motivated to get this done and the NFLPA is under some pressure now being several players eligibility to play are affected. Happy to clear that up for you! :)

Most of the sources/media that are talking about it seem to think that the new rule is going to apply retroactively. I don't know personally if there is anything to that, but they sure seem confident about it.

I think the NFL just really wants to get past this whole deal where Gordon got a whole year suspension for taking a drug that is legal in a couple of states and was barely above the limit, while Ray Rice is only missing two games for beating his GF unconscious. So that to me might be the reason the NFL would want to retroactively apply the new rule, to try and possibly save some face.

However, who knows with the NFL... they seem to just make it up as they go sometimes.

The NFLPA came out and said they did not want to have the rules applied to current suspensions. I don't see why the league would object to that. There would have to be some negotiation on the terms of the Welker and Scandrick suspensions - they both tested positive for a drug that would now be placed under the substance abuse rather than performance enhancing policy - however, players can't be tested for substance abuse (unless they've tested positive in the past) during the off-season. I expect the settlement would put both guys in Stage 1 of the substance abuse program.

The Cowboys did work on the SF game plan during camp while OScan was still present, so that could have some benefit. How much? Don't really know, but that's better than having no game plan prep.

Yeah, I had though about that... and it would help some. However, coaches hate to play guys who didn't practice the week leading up to the game. IMO, the vast majority of the game planning is going on this week.

Anyway, you could be correct and they might would feel like he got enough during the preseason.

Either way, it probably isn't going to matter because I don't see any way OS is going to play week 1.

Correct me if I'm wrong but under the new rule he will still miss 1 game and I'd assume that's game 1, hopefully we get him back for the next one...

I read somewhere that part of the holdup is due to the NFL pushing for more strict HGH testing in exchange for changing the suspension policy.

From Archer.....

The Cowboys would activate Scandrick to the roster if he is allowed to play Sunday against theSan Francisco 49ers. His suspension started after the final cuts, and he is scheduled to return Sept. 29. The Cowboys are not allowed to have contact with Scandrick, per league rules, but he said he would work out twice a day on his own with a personal trainer in Los Angeles.

Scandrick has missed four days of practice, but the Cowboys started their game planning for the Niners in training camp.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Friday the possibility of Scandrick returning was news to him.

“I’m not planning on it, let’s put it like that,” Jones said. “Just on first blush, just from what you just said, the quicker we can get him back, the better our team would be because he arguably did have certainly defensively, and in the secondary, a great training camp. I really admired the way that he really kept competing and kept preparing himself for the season even though he knew he was going to be out for the four games. No individual, no person would deserve it more if he could get back early.”

Totally agree.

I don't buy the can of worms argument, this can be handled specifically, and suspensions could be lifted retroactively for those few named players in this certain instance. #FreeOrlandoScandrick
