Well, day one is done and Europe lead 5-3.

Didn't look likely after the morning fourballs, but they hit back in the foursomes.

The general feeling was that Watson made a bit of a mistake putting out Mickleson again in the afternoon, and not playing Speith & Reed after their performance in the morning.

America deserves to lose for making their captain's picks too early. Billy Horschel and Kris Kirk should be playing instead of take your pick, Webb Simpson/Keegan Bradley/Hunter Mahan.

Fowler/Walker were 5dn after 8 holes, they should have done the honorable thing and fell on their putters.

Hah!

I agree that our selection process is flawed. Anyone who plays golf knows that your feel and precision comes and goes. Horshel and Kirk have been hot enough to be picked.
Furthermore, Watson didn't make good pairing decisions on the alternate-shot foursomes - lost 7 matches and tied one, for ridiculous 7 point deficit, compared to
a 3 point advantage in the 8 four-ball matches.
We're not dead, but on life support.

The golf in the Fourballs in the morning was outstanding from both teams.

There were a few of them in the afternoon matches that looked as if the mental fatigue has set in, particularly in the Rose/Kaymer vs Speith/Reed game as it appeared neither team wanted to win.

Europe obviously in the driving seat at 10-6, however it was that score 2 years ago going into the singles and we know what happened.
There are two or three players in the European team that don't look as if they can win a match, but for the US team it will depend on how they bounce back from this afternoons matches.

Fowler 5 dn after 6 holes. Fowler should have brought his dirt bike so he'd have something else to do

Patrick Reed telling the crowd to shut up, dude has some serious balls. Tom Watson not playing him and Spieth every match was moronic.

USA up 6 and dn 2 right now. I know we have golf fans here, where you guys at?

Mahan choking, Spieth missed a putt to go up 4 and it completely rattled him to the core

He does play with some heart, reminds me a lot of Poulter (although playing much better right now).

As for not playing him in every match, I kinda agree. Although I think that you could see some of the players that played all four team matches were struggling Saturday afternoon.

Fowler just hit a brick wall in Rory today, he had 7 birdies & an Eagle in their match and nobody on the planet was going to beat him today.

Historically the singles have favoured the US (until recently anyway) and I think a lot of that is due to strength in depth. Europe's top players always used to have to play all the matches and just ran out of gas in the singles and the other players were just not quite good enough.

Happy that we retained the Cup, and already looking forward to two years time. I think the US has the nucleus of a good young team to replace the likes of Mickelson & Furyk.
