Sully Bald Head: Dez has not progressed in the last 24 months

This may be the dumbest thing I've read all season. It's like night and day between now and 2 years ago. He went from a bonehead with talent, to a smart route runner, good blocker, great teammate. I honestly never thought he'd become such a smart receiver. I only hoped his talent would out weigh his dumb mistakes.

I agree to an extent...Dez has made some clutch catches, but he hasn't really shown the ability to take over a game on his own like some of the other top WRs have.

I think
Just curious, why do you think Dez struggles against these scrubs? I can't put my finger on it.

its a mnetality thing from Dez. I think he was awesome against richard sherman- he was open, making tough catches, he was up for it. The box score did not reflect how well he played.

I wonder of he os not getting "amped" enough when he sees some rookie/no name against him. Meanwhile, those guys are upping their game because it Dez Bryant. Thats what i attribute most to his lack of separation.

He might as well have admitted he doesn't watch film. His route running has improved significantly from just last year alone.

Actually you don't even have to watch game footage to know that he lines up in more places than before.

This is funny because of the sound bite of him against the Raiders during the preseason scrimmage. Dez said to one of the Raiders no names, "I don't even know your name, but you know mine!" They play that audio clip on The Break sometimes. So funny.

I wouldn't say "he hasn't progressed", however, I wouldn't say the the general hypothesis of the article is wholly wrong.

Dez is an incredible WR, however, for whatever reason he has lost of a lot of the escapability he had earlier in his career and his YAC has been going down. He isn't able to outrun people like he did earlier in his career and gets tackled from behind more and more.

Dez's yards per reception was 15.0 in 2012 and since dipped to 13.3 in 2013 and 13.1 so far in 2012.

I am knit-picking a elite WR in Dez, however, I no longer see the guy who was a threat to take a catch and take it the house on just about any play. I saw that in 2012.

Why? My working theory is his back issues, while not severe (as far as we know) have robbed him him of some of his upper gear.

That's probably true about his back. I wonder if an injury/issue like that can return to 100%.

I've noticed that his stride seems a lot shorter and his running appears more labored compared to his rookie year when he would flat out outrun people. Either his back or maybe he is too muscular and lost some flexibility.

That was point I was trying to make in the earlier post. Dez 2010 - 2012 and especially in 2012 he was a threat to take any catch to the house and was rarely caught from behind.

Since then his ability to make things happen after the catch has been diminished.

I haven't ever considered that he might be "too muscular", but I guess it's a possibility.

All we really know is his yards per reception has been in steady decline since his breakout 2012 season:

2012 Yards Per Reception: 15.0
2013 Yards Per Reception: 13.3
2014 Yards Per Reception: 12.9

This is the absolute dummest comment I have heard from Sullivan. I guess he is trying to fit in with the Dallas media such as Cowlishaw.

This further proves my point that a lot of you only watch Dallas. What other guys get open more than Dez? And don't say Demaryous because we know why he's 100 yards every freaking week.

I would venture that has a lot to do why style of play changes and role he is being asked to play.

I guess. You'd think if anything it would go up in a play-action offense with the leading rusher in the NFL forcing 8 guys into the box.

I do agree with you that he just isn't running the intermediate and deeper routes you need to increase his yards per reception.

No one can argue that he hasnt played well last two weeks and does not look like a max contract WR.

Last 2 weeks we had 1 QB who couldn't read blitzes presnap and Weeden, that might have a little something to do with our WRs not having good games
