NFL Network is calling the 4th down spot controversial

They talkin' about the fumble at the goal line?

Of course not. THAT was more controversial.

Hilarious. No one made a call before the replay and the ref states that the ruling on the field stands.
I don't know what they were watching but that ball wasn't at the 30 yard line at any point. They even brought in a NFL official who explained it was the right call, but implied that the ball may have been at the 30 yard line before McClain made contact. Bull! That ball was nowhere near the 30 before or after contact.

They also called Dez's TD controversial. The official said the ball moved in his hands but it wasn't enough to overturn it? I saw the ball move at one point, but Dez clearly had control and the defender knew it by his reaction. Why not just give the Cowboys credit without implying that two great plays in a comeback win are controversial? At least ESPN's Mike and Mike gave the Cowboys credit for a great win.

Of course he did. The good 'ol boy network.

ZERO accountability and even less consistency.

They need some competition.

he caught the ball away slightly away from his body. his body never made it to the 30 not sure what in the world they want to see.

I agree. That's why I was surprised they presented it using the word controversy. Why bring it up at all? And that was a clear cut TD by Dez too.

I don't think the ball ever made it to the 30, even in the air. It was a clear cut stop to me from the start. I don't even know how that official could spot it like he did. Great play by RoMac. Not one mention of that.

If my memory from last night is clear (and it could be *burp* fuzzy) - from the original broadcast angle the ref on the sideline who came running in was at about the 34 yard line when the catch was made so he may not have had the best angle.

i'll be honest, after getting completely crapped on all night by the refs, I was fully expecting them to uphold the spot on that 4th down play EVEN THOUGH it was clear as day he did not have forward progress to make the line to gain

I did not celebrate one bit until those beautiful words "the receiver did not make the line to gain" were uttered

I have yet to read an article or commentary on the fact that Romo threw for 4 TD, no INTs and led them to a win.

I have only read about beckham, controversy, etc. Nothing about the fumble not overturned btw.

Because the big game is thursday. do that thursday and thats all you will hear about.

Who cares at this point? Game, set and match.

On Dez TD catch it doesn't even matter if it moved. It never touched the ground because he had his hand under the ball. He came up with it in full control. It's a catch. It's only controversy because the media is full of stupid people.

That and all scoring plays get reviewed.

I can see why you can question it. He caught it in the air at the line but his momentum carried him back and his feet hit a yard back. He never advanced it from there. But you could certainly say he was at the line in the air.

I'm almost 100% sure that the proper ruling is the runner doesn't get forward progress unless they are pushed back.

What was "controversial" about the reversal? It was clearly short of a first down, even Tom Coughlin seemed resigned and he argues EVERYTHING.
They should have been talking about the non-fumble that was. It wasn't even close.

Spot on because I can guarantee if Romo had done the opposite and thrown 4 INTS and no TDs we wouldn't have heard the end of it.

Notice how the obvious Giants fumble wasn't controversial?

The ball never got to the 30. There is no controversy. And yes, McClain wasn't even mentioned about that a great play he made.

Plus... would it have mattered? Cowboy still had a minute left with 2 timeouts on the... 15 or so?

I was actually hoping it would've been over turned so we could burn more clock getting into the endzone. They weren't going to stop us.

I saw the replay on it from different angles the only controversy was the initial spot the ref marked replay corrected it.

It's really that simple. That is why there is a replay system in place now - to correct incorrect calls made on the field. This play is a shining example of how the NFL has improved their product by using all means necessary to make sure what actually happens on the field doesn't get messed up by the horrible part time officials the NFL has employeed now.
