This is my opinion. And frankly I think it will be New England and Green bay in the SB and GB will stomp a mudhole in their arse and walk it dry.
.

Green Bay isn't making the Superbowl this year. They have a good team, but I think they slip up in the playoffs. We get to see the two teams play this Sunday.

Great qb, he grew up about 20 minutes from where I live - Monongahela, PA. They asked him to come back for a parade after the Niners 1st SB. He wanted to know how much he was getting paid for an appearance. What a jerk. Great, great qb though.

He needed the money. lol Really no different than any other player.

I asked if he'd be CAPABLE, not if he WOULD. I'm fully aware of what our offense looked like.
I think he would and Aikman was a very accurate passer but one thing is for sure Troy was a statue in the pocket and would need a very good o-line to produce and he had that in the 90s as you know as for Rodgers again he is the superior athlete to Troy as for him being capable yes he could be.

That is strange because I didn't post anything about Green Bay and New England going to the SB and GB stomping a mudhole in them idk if this computer I'm on is putting words to this keyboard lol.

I look at what skateboarders do now and back in the day. Bicyclists and motorcyclists as well. There was no way someone was going to take their bike and bounce up and down on the back tire. Or do flips. Or even attempt to do those ramps and double flips.

And that flying Superman thing they do would be suicide.

Same with skateboarders. I tell you no one was doing what they do now.

So who is better? The people now. They have built on what was in incremental ways until they are breathtaking in their artistry.

Same with guitarist. Shredding is commonplace now. Tapping is common place. But other than a few like Richie Blackmore, no one was doing some of the runs they do not on fret boards.

Are they better now? Yes.

Montana was a smart quarterback. Bradshaw had more physical talent. They were the tops back in the day when they called their own plays.

But it would be difficult for any of them to measure up to players now days.

Brady is a fantastic quarterback. Payton is as well.

But what Aaron Rodgers does may be the best I have ever seen. He has moves similar to Romo, and is a quick draw like Romo, but he is one of the most accurate passers I have seen, outside of Aikman. And his discerning defenses is as good as it gets.

If Rodgers had a defense like the 92 Cowboys, that team would be running off championships one after another.

This is my opinion. And frankly I think it will be New England and Green bay in the SB and GB will stomp a mudhole in their arse and walk it dry.

But no way does Montana stand up to Rodgers. If you never saw Montana, he had a weak arm. He outsmarted the other team. And it was the West Coast offense that threw short passes.

Just my opinion.

Nailed it.

There's an understandable desire to respect the legends by insisting that they were better (or just as good) as the youngsters that play nowadays. And people naturally believe that the guys they grew up loving were as good as it gets.

But the "rule changes" excuse is such a cop-out. There's no way those changes are 100% responsible for the ENORMOUS gulf between the QBs' production nowadays and their production in previous eras.

And 20 years from now, same arguement will apply to those NFL players. Better, more ahtletic, faster, stronger, etc. Never ends. lol.

I love how the guys who liked this post don't see how it kills their argument.

Yes, in 20 years the players will be better than they are today. And there will be similarly weak excuses made for their superiority.

Does that make less sense than believing the quarterback position peaked in the 1980s-1990s? LOL.

Cyborg QB's in 2080 will be better than today's QB's too.

As I heard on from one of the ESPN Radio guys, its like the football god(s) reached down to Aaron Rodgers when he was a baby and anointed him. He really does seem like the absolute prototype of the modern NFL QB.

Having said that, I do remember watching Montana play and that guy was a stone-cold trained killer. I can't ignore the 4 Superbowls. I can't ignore how incredibly infuriating it was watching him carve up defenses.

The guy retired with a 92.3 QB rating. This is for someone drafted in 1979!

Add 5-10 percentage points in QB rating per decade to adjust for different era and you could project him as a 102 - 112 QB rating guy -- which is just about where Rodgers is.

In summary, it's hard to argue that Rodgers isn't the best we've seen from a pure statistical perspective, however, regular season stats don't tell you anything about what a winner Montana was in the post-season and I'd have a tough time not going with Montana over Rodgers in a hypothetical 1 game winner-take-all scenario. You could maybe say the same for Brady.

I would think the history of man would explain this and end any argument.

Man lived in caves once. Now man lives in buildings made of all kinds of materials and in all shapes and sizes.

Were the architects and builders back then the peak of that industry?

A cave man would never be able to make and fly a craft to the moon. But man eventually figured it out.

So how surprising is it that athletics has figured how to be bigger and better? Through the help of diet, exercise, and medicine.

WRs are bigger, stronger and faster than they used to be. That's not even debatable.

They also make INSANE catches today that guys simply weren't capable of making 20+ years ago. I don't see how an unbiased observer could think these guys aren't better than their predecessors.
Different times and different eras and yes WRs, and TEs are bigger and stronger in today's game and are very good due to the modern day advances in physiology. Calvin Johnson is the record holder for most receiving yards in a season and if the rules of today was in effect for Jerry Rice in the 80s then that record would've belonged to Rice hands down.

I'm not saying that you don't know this because you do just saying the era are very different.

Yeah, imagine what Rice's already bloated stats would have looked like with today's rules.

Aaron Rodgers, and that's not recency bias. Nobody's ever done it better.

QBs are simply better now than they were in previous eras. Just like kickers, punters, receivers and tight ends.

There are some great players from previous eras. Some who would be HOFers today. Exactly what eras are you thinking about?

They played against each other twice if memory serves. I think Aikman's rookie and second year in the league (89 and 90). Dallas lost of course.

I honestly don't remember if they ever faced or not. I really can't remember those games if they did.
