Dez Bryant should be signed long-term

There's no way we let him walk, by the way. Jerry will franchise him, which I personally think is a bad idea, but he has said he'll do it.

It would only be a good idea if Dez were to have an Achilles tendon rupture type of injury in the offseason or next year, and never be the same player again as a result. Then he's off the books in terms of the salary cap so to speak.

Otherwise, I agree - franchising often leads to player resentment and discontent over a long-term deal not getting done.

I agree both are very good receivers, but in both of those cases, is it the receiver that makes the quarterback or the quarterback that makes the receiver??

Dallas played Colts without TY, wasn't pretty. Haven't seen Rodgers without Jordy yet. But I'd imagine it be pretty hard on that team as well

I definitely want to keep him.

People acting like Hilton, Nelson, or Cobb are chopped liver are just acting plain silly.

Dez effects the game in more than just catches and yards. His blocking on runs is fantastic. Him simply being on the field makes the defense choose to either double him and allow less in the box to stop the run game or go after our run and leave Dez 1 on 1. Having him out there makes the lives of Williams, Witten, and Beasley so much easier.

I can understand why people are worried about giving tons of money but that's the going rate for one of the best WR's in football. Michael Irvin made the going rate for a top WR when he was in Dallas. Today is no different. Do you think those 90's teams would have won without Irvin? If you do then you're crazy.

You have to pay the going rate to the guys that are your best players and make no mistake about it Dez is our best player.

Excellent point. You can tell a HUGE difference in the Colts offense without TY as opposed to when they have him. It completely changes the game and how teams have to play you.

AND more importantly, they are not paid like top 5 WRs so they don't strap your cap

Unfortunately most fans (and there are several in this thread) that root for the player and not the team

I could care less what Dez "deserves", I only care about the cowboys winning a SB

Right now Jordy's contract is ok. But he will soon be a burden on Green Bays cap.

Look at the 4 teams in the championship games ....

There is not a SINGLE team with a top 5 WR

Unfortunately our fans learn nothing

This game is won by teams not great WRs

Pay Dez but if he wants top 5 WR money you let him walk (of course that will never happen with Jerry)

I'm usually right there with this argument, but Dez brings more to the team than a lot of other WR's. He should be retained, but not at the cost of crippling the franchise.

That is my point
Love Dez and would love to keep him but at the right price

Jerry stated a week or 2 ago that Dez isn't going anywhere. And when Jerry wants to keep somebody, he stays. Nothing else to discuss.

So we role out with Williams, and Cole B? Maybe some Rookie?

Not sure if you saw the greenbay game. They doubled Dez, and dared everyone else to beat them. Romo Danced all day in the pocket, and none of the other bums could get open.

So yes, let Dez walk. Keep Murray and his fumbles, and Bum Wr's who can't get open 1 on 1, and another who perfected the art of body catching.

Tom Brady competes for Superbowls almost every year, won three and tell me his big name receivers he had..They don't over pay receivers that's why Welker was sent packing. he had Randy Moss for a few years and didn't win a Superbowl with him....Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, J Jones, don't have any rings, they're considered top receivers..

Brady uses quick hitter plays, and gets the ball out behind a very good line. Also if the Pats where in the NFC I don't think they would be that dominant year after year.

If Dez walks, we go from a top receiving team to near the bottom, just like that. TWill, Harris and the Beast scare no one. We haven't had a WR like him since Irvin and it would be a shame to not sign him.

If he goes, my interest in the Cowboys will diminish significantly. He brings more to the table than just his stats.

I'm sure Jerry will give him the cash. And gun to my head, I would probably do the same thing. I do have a few small concerns about the guy, but yes I say pay him.

Now, one thing I would like to see changed. And I guess this is on the offensive staff, some on Romo, and some on Dez. If Dallas is throwing a boat load of money at this guy, they need to find a way to get him open enough to make plays....even when the opponent is trying to take him away. I know it opens things up for other guys, but is the team going to pay him huge bucks to be a decoy or to make big plays consistently?

Again, I'm certainly not blaming Dez. I point the first finger at the staff. They need to design some stuff so he can get open enough that Romo has the confidence to throw him the ball. And yes Dez has to continue working hard to beat double coverage.

I just went through all box scores, counting the playoffs, and the last game he had double-digit targets was against Arizona. 9 out of 18 games, he had 7 or less targets. 12 out of 18 games he had 8 or less targets.

If Jerry is emptying his wallet for Dez, then its on the staff, Romo, and Dez to be getting him more than 7 or 8 targets.
