big blow to a sport struggling to get fans to the races, all these tracks that are tearing down seating might as well double their efforts.

The most hated driver on the circut is going to retire and you think that is going to drive away fans? I guess it's possible. I don't watch NASCAR regularily since Dale Sr died. Now that #24 is walking away I might start watching again. I would love to go see a race again specifically at a couple of tracks I never made it to like Bristol for example. No way I would consider it before. Now I'm looking forward to it again.

Entertainment needs a villian.

I'll never watch NASCAR but I can see how this would be a big blow to them.

sucks that SR couldn't intimidate Gordon huh?

Agreed.

The "good" vs. "Evil" angle is universal in its appeal.

I can't imagine NASCAR being a bigger draw without him.

I think it hurts the appeal of the product.

Good riddance! How will missing the little whiny snot nosed punk be a blow to the sport? He doesnt win anything. All he does is whine.

The sport has never recovered from losing Dale Sr. For a few years after he was killed when the DEI cars were dominating at the plate tracks it was still fun to watch, but its been going down slowly but steadily since that time.

If Jeffie boy is your biggest star you're a sport in trouble. The sport just doesnt have any real personalities anymore. A few jerks with the Busch brothers and Kezelowski but no real personalities. The racing just isnt as good as it once was. There isnt any real draw. NASCAR has become boring in many ways.

I miss the good times. Used to have tix every year at Dover, Richmond, Charlotte and Daytona. Now its just not worth the time and the cost to go to a lot of races. Obviously many others feel the same way. Pretty stupid of NASCAR to tear out seats IMO.

I wish I could 'like' this post 1000 times.

Just out of curiosity why does everybody dislike the guy? And this coming from someone who doesn't follow NASCAR at all (nothing against those that do, it's just not for me). He comes off as a nice guy, so I was just curious, I don't care either way. Ha

You could subsitute Gordon with "Cowboys" and write the same thing. Some will say "oh why would we miss those pansies" and others will say "Oh there one of the greatest franchises blah blah." The reality is that for everyone who hates Gordon, there's a fan who likes him, and polarizing characters always sell the event.

Gordon was not a good ole boy - might be why people don't like him - I'll tell you this, Dale Jr can't carry Gordon's jock.

He's a lil whiny punk. Real NASCAR fans have never liked whiners - see Davey Allison. But there are still fans that follow the sport that like some of the lil whiny punks. They're just psuedo NASCAR fans.

I liked Jeff Gordon when he first came up. When he was driving the Baby Ruth car in Busch he didnt win, but he had people talking about him. When he got to Cup he drove a Chevy for Rick Hendrick so I decided to root for him. Not as my primary driver but a guy I liked. After a few years tho, once he started showing his *** I was turned off. He's a whiny lil snot nosed punk. A wimp. A wuss.

He's not a man's man. If you look at the majority of his fan base its all girls/ women and wimpy guys. Oh yea, there a few rednecks that root for him, but not a large percentage.

I never liked Tony Stewart . . . . . . . . . until he gave Jeffie Boy some of his own medicine at a road race. I think it was Sonoma rather than Watkins Glen, IIRC. Jeffie for years would race people and put then in a position to either wreck, or let off and let him go by. It was almost as if NASCAR had mandated that for all 42 drivers not named Jeff Gordon, thats how bad it was. He put Tony in a bad spot and Tony didnt take it. Tony made his point that day. Sure Tony was out of the race that day but so was Jeffie Boy. And lil Jeffie was hot. Oh man was he hot. Somebody had stood up to his games on the track and he wasnt happy. He wasnt gonna take that. The lil wuss went over to Tony's hauler since both of them were out of the race and tried to play tough boy. Tony wasnt having any of it. He let Jeffie know that if he tried his crap on the track again it would be the same result. The crews were all around but it was still Jeffie making threats and Tony saying "c'mon" The lil wuss barked a lil but he wasnt really gonna mess with Tony. It was a big deal for NASCAR to show on TV. I dont think lil Jeffie Boy has really done a whole lot since then, at least not as compared to his run with Evernham as his crew chief.

I gained a ton of respect for Tony that day. He earned it. I think 41 other drivers gained a lot of respect for him that day as well.

Gordon is a lil wuss. My wife called him a name one day that shocked me. My wife is a nice Christian girl who very rarely says anything about anybody. much less call anybody a name. Something had happened in a race I had on and I was commenting about lil Jeffie whining and my wife, referring to a part of the female anatomy said, "He's a *****." I was shocked, but proud of her at the same time! She said it best IMO.

There is no such thing as a "tough" racecar driver. This is pretty ignorant I'd say.
