The Cowboys have balked at handing Dez Bryant a long-term contract extension with significant financial guarantees, in part because of their lack of off-the-field trust in the Pro Bowl receiver.

I haven't followed this whole thing very close, .. but are we certain that this is a true statement?

Have the Cowboys brass come out and said they don't trust Dez?

Or is this just a writer speculating?

I think the statement is of a reporter who has talked with Dallas and witnessed moves by the Cowboys regarding Dez

I think there could be some truth about the trust issue after all it was Jones and Dez who came to an agreement when Jerry hired a security person to keep tabs on Dez and rules put in place

• A midnight curfew. If he’s going to miss curfew, team officials must know in advance;
• No drinking alcohol.
• He can’t attend any strip clubs and can only attend nightclubs if they are approved by the team and he has a security team with him.
• He must attend counseling sessions twice a week.
• A rotating three-man security team will leave one man with Bryant at all times.
• Members of the security team will drive Bryant to practices, games and team functions.

Honestly I like Dez and want him back but are these type of rules that Dallas implemented a sign of trust?

I remember them implementing those rules a couple of years ago, ... are they still in place?

Do they still not trust him?

I don't know if they are or not but the fact they felt the need to do that makes me think there very well could be issues of trust and a reason why they may be leery of offering more in guaranteed money

I think Jay Z is about Jay Z. The more he can get for Dez the better he looks as a sports agent and getting more clients.
I don't know the guy personally, but I know Cowboys fans. I'll go by what I do know. He ain't screwing his Boys.

I don't think Dez is I think Dez is highly emotional and I do not think he is as business savvy as JZ. Again my concern is Jay Z trying to make a name for himself in the sports world and doing what is best for his own image over that of Dez

I think I recall what you're referring to. The issue is that Jay Z himself is not a certified NFLPA agent. You have to have a college degree to be certified by the NFLPA. He hired her to be the football rep for his agency. There was a question about whether Jay Z negotiated the contract, but there was no violation by her during that process.

When Roc Nation first formed they weren't licensed yet to deal wit any of the leagues. That is why they teamed up with CAA, who had guys like Tom Condon that could bridge the gap and show them the ropes. They knew it wasn't going to be a long term partnership and they both benefited.

Jay Z is a great businessman and has made a ton of money and runs several successful businesses. Roc Nation has been collecting top athletes well before Dez. They got Robbie Cano a 240m deal with the Seattle Mariners over his own NY Yankees.Jay Z is being smart by waiting. Why take a lesser deal before Free Agency even starts?

If Randall Cobb signs for 12m+ that would only help Dez, if he takes 9m Dez always has the tag at 12.7m. Why isn't anyone making asinine claims about Elway and the Broncos dealing with DThomas. He is in the exact same boat as Dez and hasn't signed a long term deal either. There is no deal because their is no urgency. The Franchise tag is fair to all sides at that price and it has taken all the worries out of the deal.

It has nothing to do with the Illuminata, Walmart videos, the Jones' being scared or anything else. It's just the business of football and business is booming. I wanted to get Dez for a bargain but this is his one big chance to cash in and he isn't going to waste it.

I don't think it was ever as bad as anyone made it out to be and I don't think anything like that is still in place. Dez doesn't do drugs and barely drinks according to those that know him best. The most he has been accused of being caught in some pictures with different women.

I don't think the Jones' have any problems paying Dez long term. They seemed to have changed their ways a little and have got very favorably long term deals from Romo, TSmith and Lee. They are trying to get a deal with Dez, but they know they have the franchise tag as the safety net.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but a tidbit from Dez's Mother from TMZ Sports

Dez Bryant's mom says she's buried the hatchet with her son over the 2012 domestic violence incident and loves him very much -- but says she's convinced someone is trying to use Dez's past to sabotage his NFL future.

TMZ Sports spoke with a rep for Angela Bryant ... who tells us, "Ever since the 2012 incident, they have worked out their issues and they've got a lot of love for each other."

As we previously reported, Dez was arrested for allegedly assaulting his mom during an argument in her Texas home ... though the charge was eventually dismissed.

"Angela and her son have a great relationship and whoever is behind this is using [Dez's past in an] attempt to assassinate Dez's character."

The rep says Dez and his mother have been speaking regularly about the current situation -- and, "They believe it is no coincidence that this is happening around the time that [Dez's] contract is up for renewal."

Angela's rep says she believes ... "It comes down to someone trying to interfere with Dez getting his contract extended from the Cowboys."

"[Dez and Angela] don't know who's behind it. They are desperately trying to find out."
