Cowboys salary cap $$ is low because they franchised Dez

I know Dez needs to fight for his money, and they were doing this. But in the middle of contract talks when they were so close he got it in his head that it was a smart thing to switch agents. After he had said he would stop talking about the contract negotiations and wouldnt deal until after the season. But in the middle of the season he started opening his twitter account to mouth off about his contract. After he said he was done talking about it.

So he switches agents and his new agent Condon uses the 114mil contract talks as a starting point and going up from there. Instead of working around the numbers that were being discussed and almost agreed to. thats why Jerry Jones was upset with him switching agents.

So he has no right to want, what he wants?

I don't know why the onus falls on dez to get the deal done. If the cowboys present a more reasonable offer, he might've signed it back then. This has nothing to do with how much the cowboys can afford to sign dez for, it's about how much they want to give him up front/guarantee. Signing bonus money doesn't count towards the cap and the cowboys only wanted to give Dez $5 million upfront. That should tell you everything.

HUH wut, signing bonus money is what does the most damage to a salary cap, its guaranteed money so no matter if what, except retirement, the player gets that money. Most contracts have relatively low bases but sogning bonus is what puts some of those contracts so high.

I was hoping we would be able to get better since we came so close to last year. I have a hard time seeing how we can get better since I don't put too much trust into rookies. I wasn't asking for Suh, Hardy, McCourty or anything like that. I was just asking for our own guys coming back. I have a feeling we lose a lot of them and don't replace them with anyone.

Exactly what I've been saying since the GB game. Folks around here don't get that. We weren't that far away, and didn't need to do much, with the exception of retaining our core. Apparently folks want to go back to the team we had where only 1 or 2 were talented enough to make Pro Bowl. This talk where people think 3 OL can win us games with joe blow playing RB, and Dez unhappy, and depending on Lee to play more that half a season ia crazy. We could regress really fast ifffff, we aren't very careful.

Theres no doubt in my head the cowboys will work out a deal. My point in my OP was it didnt need to happen that way. For all the words Dez has talk about his displeasure, he is the one to blame. He shouldve kept working towards a deal with parker instead of signing with another agent if he wanted it done. I hope they get that done within 8 days.

They could have let him walk. Not Dez's fault. Same thing happened with Spencer, he put Dallas over the cap and caused restructuring.

And didnt you say in another thread that you would be fine if they tagged Dez for two years and let him walk. Now they did step 1 and its Dezs fault when you got what was appetizing?

Absolutely! All we have to do is restructure Tyron Smith (who is still young) to sign our own. I don't understand how you can blame Dez. He is trying to get top dollar and is negotiating. I also don't blame Dallas. We are trying to negotiate and be as frugal as what we can. We would have worked harder to resign him if we were concerned with franchising him. Don't sweat it. On the bright side, at least these threads have replaced the Dez video rumor threads.
