Cowboys salary cap $$ is low because they franchised Dez

Honestly I love Dez but if Oakland comes calling with their WR need and high draft picks I'll take that all day.

I have a feeling if not Oakland, someone, is going to send two picks to Denver or Dallas for DT or Dez. Cleveland?

Theres no doubt in my head the cowboys will work out a deal. My point in my OP was it didnt need to happen that way. For all the words Dez has talk about his displeasure, he is the one to blame. He shouldve kept working towards a deal with parker instead of signing with another agent if he wanted it done. I hope they get that done within 8 days.

when you have opportunity to cash in after playing 5 years a rookie deal you do it. I don't blame Dez or the Cowboys its business. If Dallas doesn't want to sign him for more then 30 mill guaranteed then they should franchise him two years in a row and release him the following year.

I had this convo with a friend earlier. If those who picks were this years 12 and next years 1st I'd gamble that CLE gets us a higher 1st rounder next year. I wouldn't do it for the 12 and 19 this year. Although 3 1sts would make for a fun draft day

Remember D Thomas is out there. He likely sees the Broncos as very Short term with Manning. I can see him working the trade angle. He is probably as comparable a receiver

Its better to have supply out there for a franchise tag in trade....maybe not in getting one to set the market. If Thomas and Bryant wait for the other to sign so they can sign higher, this could get bad. I think Dez blinks first in that situation

If only there was some franchise out there that would make him an offer so we get 2 1s from them.
Hey maybe jerry will get to his dream of jff chucking the ball 10yards over dezs head after all :)
and to make things even sweeter if that happened-cobb will hit fa
now if only the stars would align

dez is no different than murry or any other player or owner its about the money bottom
line

Dallas is now only 5.84 mil under the cap. Thanks Dez for the loyalty.

Lol i know the hate will come for this, but this is something the team didnt need. This is something that didnt have to happen.

I know Dez needs to fight for his money, and they were doing this. But in the middle of contract talks when they were so close he got it in his head that it was a smart thing to switch agents. After he had said he would stop talking about the contract negotiations and wouldnt deal until after the season. But in the middle of the season he started opening his twitter account to mouth off about his contract. After he said he was done talking about it.

So he switches agents and his new agent Condon uses the 114mil contract talks as a starting point and going up from there. Instead of working around the numbers that were being discussed and almost agreed to. thats why Jerry Jones was upset with him switching agents.

Simply restructuring a couple of contracts would give Dallas all the money that it needs to sign whatever FAs it wants, so this is no big deal. All it is is simply business on both sides.

Exactly what I've been saying since the GB game. Folks around here don't get that. We weren't that far away, and didn't need to do much, with the exception of retaining our core. Apparently folks want to go back to the team we had where only 1 or 2 were talented enough to make Pro Bowl. This talk where people think 3 OL can win us games with joe blow playing RB, and Dez unhappy, and depending on Lee to play more that half a season ia crazy. We could regress really fast ifffff, we aren't very careful.

Yep. Aside from the things you mentioned, I'm also concerned about our LBers. I think we have the potential to have a very strong LBer corps if we retain everyone, especially Carter and McClain. Those two guys are still very young and both have star talent. Durant is a nice player but he is older and doesn't have the ceiling the other guys have. And I think Hitchens is more of a Durant type. If we manage to lose both Carter and McClain, I see our LBers being a huge weakness if we're relying on Durant, Hitchens and Lee to remain healthy. Way to turn a strength to a weakness like we may do with RT and RB.

Dallas can restructure Romo any time and create space. Plus, Carr is working on a renegotiation of his deal.

Money is not an issue if they want to sign somebody specific. There are ways.

I wouldn't count on Carter or McClain. Carter is lazy and only plays when it's his contract year, and McClain is a hair from being suspended, or worse. They might get McClain for close to the veteran minimum because other teams are spooked.

Durant was the best LB they had before he got hurt.

And didnt you say in another thread that you would be fine if they tagged Dez for two years and let him walk. Now they did step 1 and its Dezs fault when you got what was appetizing?
Yes if he wanted a obscene amount of guaranteed money that puts the team in a bad spot, youre damn right.

But you mortgage the future with this philosophy, ie just kicking the can down the road. Eventually you end up in cap hell.

we've been doing that for decades it would seem and each year there are people saying we're going to have to pay for it eventually.

as far as i know we never really have been handicapped so far out of line it was hugely detrimental to the team.
