Relax. This is a camp body move with upside. The FO is for from finished addressing this team or the RB position.

The downside is that his name will keep him on the roster and we will cut better players.
You Ryan Williams fans better realize that we will draft a back still so it will be McFadden , draft pick, and only 1 more roster spot. Typically that spot is for a 3rd down back. So Ryan Williams and Randle will be the odd men out.

You saw 2015 preseason and camp already? Can I borrow the Gray's Sports almanac, Biff?

Yeah no they didn't just sign him to cut him.

He's a beast.. Just can't stay healthy.

Averages 4.1 yards per carry.

Guys.. This is our backup RB.. Looks like we are going for a rookie and McFadden is just for insurance.

The Cowboys go from a guy who runs to and through contact to a guy who can't break arm tackles, and gets hurt doing that. I would much rather have seen Stevan Ridley as a VFA. Still hoping for Todd Gurley or David Johnson in the draft.

This is what you called a "throw them off the scent" move. AP is still in play, and Gurley, Gordon or one of the other backs in the draft will still be a Cowboy after the dusk settles.

Im not agreeing with this by any means lol. Dont take my comment the wrong way. Im just saying it was Oakland. They dont have 3 all pro lineman. Also dont have romo and dez. Who knows. I dont think he will be the focal point of our run game

Exactly. Regardless of who is signed now, he is going to have weaknesses. Maybe this guy has nothing left. The way Dallas is watching their $$$, I really doubt there was much of a financial commitment here. Some of these guys with the negative comments are just stating the obvious. ANY backs left in free agency right now are not gonna be the 2nd coming of Jim Brown. And I doubt this signing was done with the intentions of him being the every down back.

This doesn't thrill me
But he's just another body to try to make the team.
Finding a RB in the draft in the round you like is not guaranteed--though the odds are better this year than normal.
We already know at least 2-3 backs will be cut before the season...maybe DMC makes the team, maybe not.

This is the offseason.. People will get signed that may not make the team, this is a good value move. His contract will probably be low risk and he may play well here. He played in Oakland, that alone says a ton..

Not everyone we sign is a DeMarco replacement, we'll be drafting a RB in this draft.

I swear, some people on this board think they are elite pro scouts and GMs.

Well stated " words of wisdom". I'm with your take also.

I seriously doubt that they are looking for a rookie in the first 3 rounds though.

I sooo remember the debates on CZ about McFadden. Some good times were had by folks who wanted him, but knew the Cowboys couldn't reasonably get him. How times have changed.

I like just bringing a vet with upside in for a few dollars just to see if anything sticks. I am sure it's not a deal that guarantees him a roster spot.

McFadden is pretty much like Murray before Murray got injured. He has talent but can't stay healthy.

He has nothing left he was not injured last year and didn't produce but latavious Murray can come in and blow the door off...terrible moves by the front office...terrible

Of the highest paid running backs in the NFL lynch is the only 1 with a super bowl under his belt. Last years SB winner used a different running back on a weakly basis ... I'd like to see them draft Gordon but invest heavily on the defensive line in the draft. The offensive line is set for a few years, now it's time to fix the defensive line. And there are still some guys available for the D-line to help this year ... 2 come to mind for the right price Fairly and CJ Mosely from Detroit.

LOL at the automatic buy-in too.

What exactly does this signing change either way?

It gives you a veteran RB. One that has rushed for 1000 yards in this. One that we don't currently have on this roster. That's what it changes
