Any chance Dallas could get some surprise help from Okoye?

i'd have to go back through the stories last season but i thought somewhere in the middle of the season or something he was "cleared medically" but he was just in no shape to really play. but for some reason i thought he was able to do some conditioning work in practices and maybe even got into some drills by the end of the season?

i may just be imagining that so someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

i think for him the OTAs are crucial so he can work on getting back into shape and getting more of his strength back.

it's going to literally be a one-step-at-a-time process for him IMO.

but i'm definitely rooting for the guy and it's gravy if he is able to make the team and provide something for us

I guess you could ....also remember Whaley is on the team as well and should be healthy by now.

I kind of doubt either make much difference myself but who knows.

It is a reason why we don't appear to be looking at DTs.

Extremely intelligent (I'm talking true intelligence, not just football IQ. Think Travis Frederick. Won some awards/scholarships, I believe). Also extremely high character. Really hard not to root for a guy like this. Also a great physical specimen. Big boy (would be our second biggest DT behind Brent) but plays like a 3-tech. Has put up impressive numbers in the past. Really hope he can produce this year.

Pretty generous use of the term "impressive numbers."

It would really be nice 'If" we get lucky here. He has talent but has had a extended time away. Anyone know if he is fully healthy now and if he wants to return?

Each player like Okoye represents a probability. The more you have of them the better the probability that some of them step up and play well in TC.

He is still only 27 and has been a solid NFL player in the past. There is really no way to know how much the medical issue affected him long term, but it's basically a free look to see if he can play.

They have a lot of possibilities at DT:
Josh Brent: He was never in great shape last season. He'll have a complete off-season and TC to get in shape and learn Marinelli's defense.
Ken Bishop: Played about 4 games last season including 1 playoff game. Had 5 tackles in 1 playoff game compared to 2 total tackles in 2 games for Hayden.
Okoye: He cleared medically mid season last year. Will have a complete off-season to train.
Whaley: Really good college game footage. On IR all of last season.
Coleman: Flashed good physical ability but has to stay focused.
Jack Crawford: Played better at DT than at DE, but was out injured after 1 or 2 games at DT.
Hayden: Last year's starter at the 1tech spot. Hopefully to be replaced.

With Tyrone Crawford as the top DT, they will keep 3 or 4 more from the above list and from any players drafted.

Was he the one in the coma?

Yep, and he got lost about 80 pounds if I remember right. He was close to dying.

He is expected to make a full recovery, but I don't know if that means he can by the player he was. His close relationship with Marinelli led to them taking a flyer.

What a tremendously welcome surprise this would be.

He had 4 sacks in his last full season while playing as a backup.

His combine number were really good.
Yea...I hardly put any stock in what he did 2 years ago - which was an anomaly anyways - and I certainly don't put stock in his combine numbers a decade ago.

So the Cowboys should just dump all players on the roster that have not been in the Pro Bowl in the past couple of years?

I never said that. I never even said they should cut Okoye. All I said was that he hasn't put up "impressive numbers."

Expecting him to have any sort of impact beyond being a rotational guy is unwarranted. Is it impossible for him to get, say, 4 sacks? No. Is it likely? Probably not. Should it be expected? Hell no.

So 4 sacks in 1 season while playing as a backup is not impressive? Nick Hayden has 2 sacks total in his 6 year career. Crawford has 3 in two years.

wath defense was he playing on, did he garner those numbers despite his team or with his teams help as many on cowboyszone crow about certain players?

That was his 1st season playing with Marinelli. Melton and Paea were the starters. Melton had 7 sacks and Paea had 2.
