Before the combine he was rated as a 6th round pick......

Amazing what one 12'3 broad jump will do.

Gonna laugh @ who ever drafts him. Praying it's not us.......

Same here. I just don't see it. unimpressive game film and bad highlights. And who has bad highlights? A football player who hates contact. Yuck!

He was already a top 50 pick according to guys like Daniel Jeremiah before the combine.

Well, if we are looking at CB as a need, he makes a lot of sense IMO. He's not perfect and he will have to work on some things for sure but we are not going to get a finished product at CB in this class if we are not picking in the top 15 or so. If he's the pick, and I'm starting to think that CB is what's going to be on the board, I'm OK with it. Would love to have a guy like Trae Waynes but he's going to be long gone.

This guy could be a Free Safety. When I watch him, I think he might be a better fit there. He has issues playing off receivers. They can be corrected but he highpoints the ball so well, he is long and has speed to get to all quarters. It could be that we are looking at him as a possible CB or Safety if the team doesn't feel like he will be a good CB.

Safetys need to be able to handle the pounding more so than a CB. And a safety who avoids contact... really?

I see Q. Rollins or PJ Williams as possible safteys if CB doesn't work out for them but Jones? Let's not go there.

It's amazing.

Some claim before the combine he was a 3rd rounder
Now some are claiming before the combine he was a 6th rounder.

Shakes my head.

He doesn't avoid contact. He just doesn't lay into it like you might like. Strong Safeties need to do that but not Free Safeties. It's important that they do make the tackle but they don't have to be thumpers. Besides, I suspect that most of that is the shoulder issue he had last season.

And there is a reason Daniel Jeremiah has been let go 3 times as a scout.......

he atleast has legitimate scouting experience as opposed to 99% of fans and pundits on the internet.

NFL frowns on being a thumper these days.

I understand the difference but I am asking for game film where he actually tackles. Or attempts. They don't teach you to grab with your hands and drag they tell you to wrap up. I didn't see it. Did you? I'm not even asking him to tackle with authority but to make a textbook tackle. Maybe the shoulder injury is that serious.

all this hype and no show. I want to be proven wrong but I don't see it, not at 27 at least.

Well, he did just have surgery on it. If you find more then one or two game films, then you are doing well. I could not so I can not say how he tackled prior to the injury. I mean, it's not like the film I saw, he was missing tackles. He was simply dragging guys down, rather then making good solid tackles.

So no film. Where's all the hype coming from? From analysts that we all love? From the combine? Just saying, doesn't seem worthy of our 1st rounder.

I did not say, no film. I said little film, two games that I found. You, yourself said you saw him on film. Obviously, there is film out there, there is just not much. Having said this, what we see is not what scouts have access to. They have every game the kid has ever played. Just because we don't see it doesn't mean they don't. I've read no evaluation on this player that says he can't tackle or is unable to tackle. In fact, most say he needs work but is a willing tackler.

In a different draft, where there might be more talent at CB, he might not be a 1st round pick. In this draft, he may very well be.

I just don't understand the hype going on this forum. The title of this thread alone: "on the bandwagon" ??? Just tells me no one here really knows what they're getting from Byron Jones and just going by sweatpant measursbles.

This is not true. I've seen him in pass coverage. What this kid can do is highpoint the ball and make plays on the ball. That's clear in his game film. He has some issues with his footwork and he could be a stronger tackler but he has ball skills, he has speed, he is intelligent and he has size. It's not a situation where nobody knows nothing.

Roy Williams was a thumper. He was as physical as you could ever want a DB to be. He couldn't cover very well but he could hit. We spent a 1st round pick on him. If you want a player like Roy Williams, you could probably get that player in the 3rd or 4th round. There are actually a lot of those players in this draft. However, if you want a guy who can cover, that's a little more difficult. There are not a lot of those guys in this draft, IMO. All but maybe 2 have issues there.

I think he might have been playing through a shoulder injury in 2014 before the injury eventually put him out for the final 5 games.

His tackling was better in previous years.

I record dozens of college games, so I did see some that probably are not available on the internet.
