Adrian Peterson threatening retirement

The amusing part is what you really want is Minn to say ok we will trade you. You have been wrong on the Vikes stance that they wanted him and willing to pay 15.4 mill and now you act as if Minn is doing him wrong because they will not pay out more?

Sorry but we will not see eye to eye on this. Yes Minn honored their end of the deal and the deal was 6 years not 3 so after 3 years the old deal is not worthless and he must now get paid again? Yes the benefit to the vikes by doing the deal as they did paying him upfront money helped them in terms of being able to get out from other the contract at a later date as opposed to back loading the deal but in the end AP got his 36 mill he got his 12 mill signing bonus. He has been paid and if he continues to produce he will continue to get paid. For this season he will get 15.4 mill and Minn has already stated they want him there, once the season starts they are on the hook for 15.4 mill no matter what.

No one is trying to dispute that the Vikings have paid what they were required to pay. The point that many of us are trying to make is that Peterson is asking the Vikings to provide guarantees that they will honor the same contract they keep insisting that he honor. Practice what they're preaching to him and not be hypocrites. He's calling an obvious bluff.

AP has the right to say and demand what he wants but Minn has the right to say NO and fully expect him to honor the deal.

And the have the same 'right' to allow this bad situation to fester. They have the 'right' to look like a second rate franchise involved in a public dispute with their best player, trying to force him to come back. They have every 'right' to keep this thing going and generate bad publicity each and every single day. And then they have the 'right' to look like hypocrites when they don't honor the contract they publicly demanded Peterson honor.

Every one of us knows what would fix this, no one more so than the Vikings themselves. They actively choose not to, and that action says much more than any words any of them are giving.

Thanks for an interesting debate.

What I am saying is Minn paid the guaranteed portion of the contract and should not have to guaranteed any more than they have done already. Again it was based on 6 years not 3, hell 3 years 36 mill upfront was not the deal it was for 6. Yes Minn is now at a point in the contract that if things go south they can get out from under the deal but they took that risk and now they should not have to risk it again for a RB who has hit 30

Who is this addressed to?

Who do you think, you have gone on about it that Minn would be stupid to pay out that type of cash how they have no chance to compete for a SB and they are best served by trading him and who would they trade him too? Dallas of course. Yet Minn has said we want him and willing to pay him 15 mill this season and unless someone is going to throw out a big trade offer they are not looking to move him. Now you want to say they should guarantee him more money?

Fair enough, but it's blatantly hypocritical for one side to preach about 'honoring a contract' if they themselves then choose not to.

They will be hypocrites if and when they don't honor the contract. So far the Vikings have fully honored their end of the deal. At this present moment the Vikings aren't hypocrites. Peterson is as he is the one that wants to change the contract terms.

If it's directed towards me, say so.

I'm saying they should back up what they're claiming to want. Practice what they preach. If what they're saying is true, giving him money now or later should make no difference. Unless they are, in fact hypocrites who think it's OK to demand a player honor a contract that they do not intend to honor themselves.

They can resolve any issues with their best player simply by assuring him that they mean what they say. In actively choosing not to, they are showing their true intentions. If I was Peterson, I wouldn't be happy about it either.

Very true. From a contractual standpoint, you are absolutely correct. But I expect the Vikings not to honor the full terms of the contract. What do you expect they will do?

I just did. You want them to trade him so Dallas can get him. They have honored their deal, and the deal was 6 years with 36 mill guaranteed not a 3 year deal guaranteeing 36 mill, to come back now and say well now you have to guarantee the rest even though your current deal is still well more than any other RB in the NFL is ridicules

It is great seeing it only from a players point of view but when they player is still getting paid well more than any player in the history of the NFL at his current pay is reaching

They should. The whole situation is unfortunate for both sides. If they are not willing to trade him then that means they plan to keep him right? If they plan to keep him then why wouldn't they guarantee some of the money to put this unfortunate situation to rest and start moving forward with a happy Peterson?

This has nothing to do with Dallas. It may not help you win an Internet message board argument but what's in the best interest of the Vikings is to either trade him or make him happy. I can understand why they want to keep him. What's not so easy to understand is why force an unhappy toxic cancerous superstar on your young team and pay him $15 million to inflict his venom on you for 1 season? Where is the upside for the Vikings to do this?

They have a situation that will only be solved by either giving him the guarantee or trading or releasing him. The third option isn't a viable solution.

Ridiculous.

But yeah, I think everyone knows I very much want to see Peterson in Dallas. I think it makes much better sense for all parties than the nonsense we're currently seeing.

Is it simply a players' point of view suggesting that both sides honor a mutually agreed upon contract?

For the record, is it your opinion that the Vikings do intend to honor the contract that they're calling for Peterson to honor?

I'm so glad that some others are actually able to see this.

Because the guaranteed money they paid him was based on a 6 year deal not a 3 year deal, he is a 30 year old RB. Minn set up the deal giving AP what he wanted when he signed and benifeted them later in the deal. Minn took the risk on this contract and should not have to pay out more guaranteed money. AP will be paid 15.4 mill this year alone once the season starts that is his money no matter what. See all you care about it 1 side of the deal not the fact of the risk the team was willing to take and now the players wants more guaranteed?

Nope.
Let's put it like this. If you were the Vikings what would you do?
A. Force a toxic player you didn't have last year to come play for you. Giving him 15million to ruin your young teams chemistry for 1 more year.

B. Trade him and get something for him. Saving your team this cancerous situation.

C. Guarantee more of the contract so that he is happy with confidence that he will still be worth the deal you signed him to for the next 2 seasons.

These are the options.
You are the Vikings. What's your move?

I would not let a player hold me hostage especially one whom I already paid a Kings ransom for. If AP is that big of a punk to now take it easy and not play hard then he never deserved the money to begin with and needs to act like a man not some whinny child who if he does not get his way. The money was based on 6 years not 3 it is not that damn hard to figure out.

So you would keep him then and risk him becoming a toxic player. Wow. Peterson will walk through the season because he will know the team plans to cut him anyway after the season. This sport takes so much heart and emotion to perform at the level Peterson is capable of. You will not get your $15 million worth of Peterson this year. But he is a larger than life personality that all the young guys will look up to. When he gives half effort and talks about how the owners screw the players people will listen.

You may think he is a punk and baby. It may be wrong in your eyes that this is the reality. But I hope if this situation is ever the one the Cowboys are in we don't do what you would do. Team chemistry is huge in a game where everyone has so much talent. I would hate to have an unhappy superstar being forced to play on my team. That never ends well.

That's not answering the question. Do you expect the Vikings will honor the contract that they're saying Peterson should?

So you would give him whatever he wants? Players run the team and demand what they want and teams should just bow down and give it to them? I don't think so. Here this is simple the deal was based on 6 years not 3 year and AP needs to get over himself and do his job or retire.
