News: PFT: Stephen Jones: “Too big a divide” to do a Dez Bryant deal now

I do...it is not enough security for someone who has gave you top notch production while playing for PEANUTS his first 5 years

12 million a year is pretty secure though thats not the point.
stay the plan and over the next two years there will be a contract extension.

Give him 13.5 and some decent incentives and tie him up for 4 years with the last two voidable or options on the last two.

Looks like D. Thomas is looking for 16 million plus a year as well. Seems like an awful lot of salary cap to tie up at the WR position to me but who knows.

Dez and his new agents can get lost..plain and simple.

The Cowboys finally have an O-line from hell ..That opens up everything..Take care Dez... Thanks for the memories. T-Will would make a great number one receiver.

I want to see Goodley , Cole, and Williams as our 3 receivers.

Dez always struck me as a player that played for the love of the game...evidently that is no longer the case.

I don't know....but I am just wondering why we are letting AJ Green...or Demryius Thomas or Julio Jones set the market...are any of these guys better? Are any of these guys more valuable to their team? So what if one of them gets 60 million with 35m guaranteed. You going to give Dez LESS than that?

How many times have we heard people say Micheal Irvin was the real leader of those 90s teams. Why? Becuase of his ability first and foremost. But also his passion, his intensity...it elevated everyone. We thought we had leaders until we got rid of certain guys and allowed Dez to be himself...and you see how inspirationl it was. So the catches, TDs, run after catch is just part of it. He is the heart and soul of this team

Green and Jones are more valuable to their team. I'm not saying better than dez although there is argument that they as good as he is. But they are more valuable. Losing them would hurt their team more than us losing dez.

good lord o_O

Tell that to Jerry Rice

Jerry Rice wasn't worth 17 million Dollars and as I recall the 49ers won a couple of Superbowls before there was a Jerry Rice. Some guy named Dwight Clark was their guy then. A good player but not a guy to be confused with Jerry Rice.

It's funny how many people are turning their back on Dez right now. It's a negotiation and you are all going to look like fools for hating on him.

He has never shown anything but pure heart and a true love for the Dallas Cowboys and you wanna judge him because his agent is tough. When it comes down to it Dez will cave and take something around 13 mil because he loves the game, regardless what his agent says

It's nothing new, and I doubt 99% of the posters are truly turning their backs on Dez. The bar is set high for this team this year. We have question marks at running back, and our elite receiver is going public saying he might miss some games this year due to his contract. While I'm not panicking about it, I can see why some are, and in return giving Dez some flack over it. It's just frustration from the fans, knowing that this year we have a good shot at going to the Superbowl, and they would like to see the team united.

12 million may sound like a lot for a guy whose already made millions, but not when you consider he's got a family to feed.

I've heard they're big eaters too.

I stand with the Cowboys on this. As I do whenever there's a team/player issue. I'd call his bluff and see if he sits out. If he does, he will have written his ticket out of Dallas as soon as the tags dry up. No interest whatsoever in re-signing that kind of player.

Denver is watching Dallas and Atlanta. Dallas is watching Denver and Atlanta. Atlanta is watching Denver and Dallas.

It's a murky receiver market. If one gets done, so will the other two. But that requires an agent to give up on the Calvin Johnson contract idea.

My gut is, Dez is the one who most wants to sign. If he takes control and tells his agent to hammer a deal out, it'll get done. Otherwise, I think Condon and Stephen will just stalemate.

If a deal is signed it will not be before July 14th. The sides have no reason to give in to each other right now, so instead you get public posturing. When you look at recent franchised players to sign long term deals (Graham, Forte, Rice) it is almost exclusively right at the deadline. Negotiations 101: Deadlines Spur Actions.
