2015 Women's World Cup soccer thread

It is the same for every other team and they are no longer complaining about it. Wambach just can't score anymore. I saw some number on twitter that shows her production has dropped a ton lately. I think she doesn't want to face the fact she is what 34/35 and can no longer score consistently. The turf didn't stop Germany from scoring 10 goals in a game etc.

true... but read the article, you will get a better understanding of what she's saying...
and yes the US is just lacking scoring punch.

Oh I understand what she is saying, but all teams face the same issue. She is the only one that is still really complaining about it. Old lady time has caught up to her and she can't face it so she is blaming the environment.

Canada has only scored one goal, and that is on a penalty kick, we aren't blaming the turf. France lost to Colombia, it isn't complaining about turf.

the turf is probably a fair compliant. scoring is wayyy down across the board even with Germany's 10 goal game factored in.
it doesn't mean abby hasn't reached the end of her prime and is now in decline but the two are not mutually exclusive.

from the us perspective the issue is we don;t have a wambach replacement.
there is no other us number 9 really.
so they'll need ot develop one over the next 4 years.

they have a couple really good wings and attacking midfielders so they could also play a different formation.

they faced a parked bus last game and that requires patience and commitment. they got the needed draw to stay atop the table.

I'd be really surprised if Japan does not win the Cup.

Japan is really good but not sure they are really better than Brazil, the US or France. --Yes, I know they won the last World Cup:)

I don't know enough about the women's side to know if where it is played has as much effect as it has on the mens.
If it does, you'd almost have to favor the US or Brazil.

Also someone will get a tough out with Canada playing at home.

The US hasn't looked great but be mindful they have faced only teams thus far that went to the quarterfinals last time out.
Tonight is the first softer opponent and they look to be winners of the group of death.

That is really helpful because it means they avoid those same teams in the knockout stages for a bit.

Japan's the defending champs, although they played average today, I really like how they control the ball.
Can't forget Germany... I don't like how the US looks.... maybe they can change that today.
And yes, of course... Brazil!

If the USA plays like that in their remaing games they are toast.
They are living in the past with too many older players.
No speed in the defense. Wambaugh while she was top player 4 years ago did little to help.
The USA style of attack does not match her when she got into 2nd half. Don't play with your back to the goal.

And the announcers. Please Don't bother to comment on the Referee or Referee Assistant and what they do or do not call.
You have no clue. You are not in the FIFA referee meetings, thank god for that. The chosen are the best of the best. Harder to make it to world cup after the preliminaries than a National team.
Your team of referees is graded on each game.
Better you should try to get a license and referee a top level game. Oh. That takes about 10 years to get there.

The German goalkeeper looks like a man

The rest of their team does not and look damn good, have to think they're the favorites with their scoring ability. Really nice passing as well, I'm impressed

I tried to watch the Australia/Brazil game but I had to change the channel as the background bongo drums drove me crazy. Did the bongos get played all game long (I watched the first 10 minutes)? It reminded me of the South African World Cup and the constant background horn buzz. During the game the camera panned to the drummers. I felt sorry for the people sitting next to them. Im sure that added to their enjoyment of the game.

she and a bunch of them in the tournament including the entire South Korean team and Abby Wambach.

The US play has been severely underrated.
They've played one of the more difficult schedules to date and have allowed nothing since 30 minutes into their first match.

The are patient and await teams selling out to score then long ball counter; never leaving themselves open to a true counter attack.
It isn't pretty but it is very effective.

Hope Solo is tremendous but she's had to do very little since game 1.

Are you concerned about the scoring? Germany and France look pretty amazing in that department
