Brady's appeal decision could come next week

No, he was convicted on two counts. He then appealed, and she didn't show up (after he paid her off), and the case was dropped.

And yet you still do not understand what a bench trial means. I give up.

That's exactly what Baseball thought. Trust me, you are going to have a lot of really pissed off Football Fans if the players ultimately strike over something like this.

They've tried mulitple times before, and they always cave.

Fans might get pissed, but they'll never leave. Not ever.

Baseball sucks in most people's eyes. That's their problem.

Would be interesting to know how long the backlog is for case load in whatever court this goes to. If the ruling comes down from the NFL and then it goes to trial and the ruling from Federal Court takes X weeks/months and that happens to coincide with the playoff schedule, that will be very interesting indeed.

That reminds me........ I have to take my Tinfoil hat in to get polished!

As a DIY option, the back of a spoon works really well. small circular motions.:)

So OJ was innocent, eh?

Ok, we are now comparing apples to oranges. At the end of the day, guilty or not, a good lawyer got him off. Thats the end of it. Thats the justice system. Period.

All this really says to me is that the DA did not have a strong enough case to feel confident in winning without the testimony of the women. Heck, it might even mean that he was not all that confident in winning with her testimony. This does not mean that the DA could not have proceeded with the case had they had enough evidence to win it.

It also says they settled. That means PAID.

Yep, and then the NFL took a look at the evidence and suspended him for almost the entire season.

I don't think this is accurate. Yes, eventually the players will come back but it will cost the NFL much more and when push comes to shove, I suspect that fans will care less and less about the moral implications of what Goodell is thinking and just want their Football back. The pressure will be huge to get the game on again and if you really think about this, it's not in the Leagues best interest to strike. The League, and by translation, the owners are really only interested in this because of public opinion and how it relates to the brand. You want to turn people against the NFL Brand, take football away from them and watch how quickly the Brand gets tarnished. That is my opinion anyhow.
They will argue and file court cases, but when push comes to shove, the NFLPA is not going to go on strike to protect and defend the rights of men who beat up women. They would get absolutely crucified in the court of public opinion. Ownership (and the league office) would be the sympathetic figures.

I don't agree. This is not about more money. This is about being able to be treated fairly and a career for these players. I am not so sure that the players would "cave" as easily as they have in the past. You must also consider that the rule of law would play a role here as well. I'm not convinced. If the union or the players will wanted to play hardball, they could simply leverage the injury concerns and sue the piss out of the NFL. That would really put the NFL between a rock and a hardcase, so to speak. I suspect that going forward, the players are going to have a lot more leverage over ownership. Time will tell.

What's your point? I have never said that they did or did not settle. I believe that you are having that discussion with other posters, not me. All I'm saying is that it doesn't matter one way or the other. The DA could have moved forward with the case if the felt like they could win it.

I think your wrong because this is not just about Hardy. This is about every player and the NFLPA does work for the players.

The NFL took a look at the evidence with a suspension already in mind, see what i did there? Made up something without a shred of proof and made it look like a fact. You should enjoy that

With pay. If they were confident, they would have just suspended him with no pay IMO.

"Settled" doesn't mean they had a thumb war and walked away.

I said...prove it...not what you think happened, show us anywhere that you know of that he paid her off. If you can't, then it is just you opinion.

This is so patently obvious.

They settled out of court. He agreed to say nothing. She agreed to say nothing. They signed to that effect. She got paid.

This happens ALL the time, at least with people who can afford it. He can. He did. It's settled between them. And she disappeared from sight as agreed.

Again, I don't have to be "Captain Deductive Reasoning" to figure this out.

Saying there was even a settlement is based on a SINGLE person saying so. Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. If you follow through on the link that page you found, you'll see it was a twitter account that Jones apparently mentions it. I say apparently because it looks to me like it was a random fan replying about the settlement rather than Jones to begin with. Itmay be that Jones says it too, but I could not find it.
Funny how ONLY Jones tweets that the case was dismissed, then someone relies to a tweet that they must have settled, and it becomes truth. All based on some random fan's tweet. There's another random fan that says the settlement was that Hardy agreed not to go after her for wrongful accusations. That is equally speculative.

Captain Confimation Bias is a far better monkier.
