What would a Dez Bryant-less offense look like?

IRVING, Texas -- If Dez Bryant's threat to "not be there," means the regular-season opener on Sept. 13 against the New York Giants, then what happens with the Dallas Cowboys?

The coaches lauded the work of Terrance Williams in Bryant's absence during the offseason program. Williams became the de facto leader of the wide receiver room. He and Tony Romo were much more in-tune with each other.

That wasn't always the case with the two.

Devin Street worked with the starters with Bryant absent. He had just two catches as a rookie in 2014 but the coaches liked his development through the year. Getting the extra work with Romo in the spring will help his development this year. Coaches say players make the biggest jumps between their rookie and second seasons. While any work would have been good work for Street, having that work come with Romo is an added bonus.

Cole Beasley would continue to serve as the No. 3 receiver in the slot, so his role would essentially be the same, but it could change how much the Cowboys use three wide receiver formations...

Missing games is a fantasy for Dez. He will not give up 750K per game.

As if Dez has never been hurt. We've seen it before, but with a crappy offensive line.

Giving him $40 million doesn't mean he won't blow his ACL, Achilles, or that his back won't start acting up again.

If either Thomas or Bryant doesn't sign by Wednesday's deadline, the union would proceed with the claim and believes that a success would result in treble damages, entitling the player or players in question to triple the value of the highest current wide receiver contract on the market.

If it comes to that (which I doubt) and it's cool with Dez, I truly hope the Cowboys cut him and wish him luck. I don't want a player on my team who thinks he deserves 48 million dollars a year to play football, regardless of how it demolishes his team.

It would be interesting, as it would be the first time in his career that Romo is without a HoF level WR (for an extended period, assuming he holds out longer than a week or two), it'd give us an opportunity to find out what he's really made of.

Pretty much the same numbers but harder in the red zone.

Still, recall that Laurent Robinson finished near the top of the league in TDs (11 in only 14 games) for Dallas and Romo.
The year before somewhere else he had two and the year later somewhere else he had zero.

But yes, it would be harder.

No it wouldn't be. That's a crazy statement.
Come on man, look it up.
Laurent Robinson (granted they did have a young Dez with him) and Miles Austin (had Crayton with him..lol) are not HOF level WRs.
And they both finished near the top in the league in TDs with Romo as QB.
Good grief!!!

He would have to deflate balls and knows the plays and formations of the defense ahead of time to have a shot at doing well.

The Cowboys will survive just fine. In fact, maybe better.
We did pretty good with old man TO and a nobody like Laurant Robinson didn't we.
We have an all pro OL and if Tony has 5 seconds he will find someone open. If that
guy is not on the roster today, he will be by mid-Training camp. McClay is on the job and
thumbing through his rolodex.

Do we have that 13m to spend on another WR?

If so we will OK. We could draft, sign or trade for another talented WR.

End of the day, regardless if we pay him or not, he will get his money. While we have T-Will.
