Base salaries are commonly restructured into bonus money which is then prorated. In this case, there would be no reason to write a contract with an immediate restructure the very next day.

Don't think you can restructure a deal in the same year you do the deal
This years base is 3 mil and will stay 3 mil
You are right though, say his 2017 base was 10 mil that could be restructured
In a couple days when we see the exact numbers we can see if it's set up to be restructured
I'm very interested in seeing the structure

Dez's new contract looks like a win-win. Dez - maybe the best player on the Dallas Cowboys - is the second top-paid WR in the league under a contract of realistic duration. How long until the Lions founder under the weight of the Calvin Johnson deal? One, maybe two years? How about THIS year!

What a difference 24 hours makes.

. For what it's worth: Dez did not receive $45 million guaranteed, as was commonly reported. He gets $23 million guaranteed this season, and $22 million more if he's on the roster next March. Now something catastrophic would have to happen on or off the field for Bryant to get cut, but the money isn't guaranteed until he gets through this season unscathed.

That's the case with guaranteed money in any contract.

I am glad that the cowboys signed Bryant now there will be no distractions heading into training camp. the drama of not having Bryant at training camp would have been unreal on this board and the team.

I tend to enjoy the watching the world burn on this forum from time to time, but I would not have wanted to watch it burn in the Cowboys' locker room.
The question floating all year between the players about how this FO isn't taking care of their #1's could have lead to... not a mutiny, but possibly an issue of totally committing to the team when the team won't totally commit to you.

It's happened...
I am very glad this signing took place. Now stay healthy and keep that nose clean Dez. I'm rooting for you.

Ah...$7 million cap hit for this season. That adds some management potential to the cap.

I'm happy he finally signed, but I'm still unimpressed with his Twitter posts and trying to force Jerry's hand. He could have been more professional and trusted the Man/team that's had his back since he came into the league. Jerry never said anything bad and always said he wanted Dez in Dallas. Sometimes you should just shut up and let your agent handle things. He still has a lot to learn from players like Ware, Witten, Lee, Romo, etc.. Throwing temper tantrums and making threats is exactly why folks still don't trust that he'll keep his nose clean. I sure hope this thing doesn't go south now that Dez had his money.

That was Roc Nation in his ear.

That was Roc Nation in his ear.

This whole ordeal was just a ploy by the Cowboy and Dez. The coverage that they both got over this nonsense made them (Jerry, maybe...lol) some exposure. I bet all this stuff was worked out a few days ago. They just wanted the TV coverage to make us FANS happy and to make the trolls disappointed.

Dez Bryant is making $16M in 2015 while Demaryius Thomas is making $15M. Both have $7M of bonus money deferred until 3/15/16.

Demaryius Thomas has $35M fully GTD at signing while Dez Bryant has $32M fully GTD at signing.

Dez Bryant's guarantees have offsets. Demaryius Thomas doesn't have offsets.

Dez Bryant has $45M fully GTD by mid-March 2016. Demaryius Thomas is still at $35M fully GTD next March.

Different structures for Dez & Demaryius. Demaryius has a $13.2M 2015 cap number. Dez's 2015 cap number is $7M.

@theogt

That is what I was saying earlier about the staggered guarantees.

That is a big win for the Dallas FO and sets precedence for future deals(even though they have used some before like with BJones).

It is basically redefining the meaning of guaranteed.
