I have read like 10 articles on this, and I still am stumped about whether or not to change. I understand there is a possibility that they will charge subscription fees after 2 years but they are not saying that in an agreement EULA.

So do you think that it is worth it to go from WIndows 7 to 10? I have heard very positive things about the OS so far, I have Windows Media Center, so it sucks that would be gone.

Is it out yet. I put my name on the wait list. I think they said they'd contact me and I can get a free upgrade. I just got a new computer on Friday too.

windows 10.

in the almost 20 years i spent at microsoft i viewed no other os as a bigger failure than 8, vista AND winme included. now they're trying to mix and match the 2 which is what they should have done all along but as for how much it will cost?

likely nothing ever again. recently i had lunch with many people i used to work with at MS and they're all ditching the phone as soon as they can. no apps, no support, no nothing. and the windows phone is just a scaled down version of 8. on the phone, it was fine. in reality, it never stood a chance. people use their phones to get away from work and play. you can't really do much like a complicated xls sheet on a 5.5" screen. try writing war and peace on that touch screen also.

not going to happen. so there will likely always be a market for the more traditional methods until people just get used to voice commands and quit typing all together. sad because this is how i keep my fingers nimble for the ladies but i digress.

that said, there's a huge reason why droid is kicking their hiney and that won't end with win10. they're giving it away because they're changing the culture to put a "store" in the OS and modulize the apps and get into the model google is using to make the OS nothing more than a storefront really.

i'm on 7 and i intentionally wiped clean any device that 8.x on it when i got it. however all good OS's must come to an end and Win7 is unfortunately no different. i'm not a fan of the shift in the UI but even less of a fan of the storefront i saw when i tested it earlier but in any event, win7 support will fade and die out and sooner or later i'll need to upgrade. i am set to do it later this week via update but i'll likely put it off until 10.1 or something because they're going to find stuff they never realized and on any major overhaul regardless of testing, things will happen.

i have no need to rush to an upgrade so i won't. but sooner or later i'll have to. i'll wait til later and see how things unfold for the first few months.

Maybe it is just me but it seems like MS goes with a good OS than a bad one then a good one and a bad one.

98 Good
ME Sucked
XP Good
Vista Sucked
Windows 7 good
Windows 8 Sucked

So hopefully Windows 10 will be good.

Of course I could be wrong on that but that just seems to be how it went.

The "free upgrade" icon has been on my taskbar for several months now and I am going to wait past the 30th and read some user reviews before I decide to upgrade or not. Ive heard that people with AMD FX Cpu's might see a performance upgrade so we shall see.

I got my new laptop w/ Win8 already on it and I hate that OS, so of course I'm going to the free upgrade to Win10. I also inherited my mom's laptop with Win7 on it but I think I will hold off for now on upgrading that one. After all my frustration with Win8, I kind of like Win7.

If you migrate to Windows 10 as soon as it's released you deserve any pain you get from it. 1.0 = No. 1.1 + good reviews then we can talk.

I gotta stay current....Xbox one, Laptop and Phone...i need them to all be friends....

I've switched to a combo of Chromeos and Ubuntu. Haven't looked back.

The only question is what happened to 9.

Meh, that is more like a service pack that fixed all the crud in 8, not a "new" OS.

Windows 9 would have confused some programming looking at it like it was Windows 95 or 98 so they skipped it, kinda like how ppl were scared of Y2K. But better not to chance some things breaking.

I heard the changes were quite extensive to bring the "crud" up to a usable level. Which is probably why Windows 10 came after Windows 8 and 8.1.

I've never used Windows ME, Vista, or Windows 8 because I refuse to use their OSes until I see the first service pack released AND the reviews are good. None of thoses OSes ever had both of those criteria met.
