Agreed... not to mention, I have no idea how we're going to afford to resign Greg Hardy if he has a productive season. We will have no cap space to do anything with him.

I will wait for the numbers before I go beserk, but I tend to agree with you. It sends a message that, "I need to be paid more for doing what I was contracted to do to the best of my ability".

This was the right move. You reward players like Mincey. But don't get it twisted, he won't resign for anything besides bargain dollars past 2015.

And this doesn't start precedent. He was brought in on the cheap, and they gave him a slight bump due to performance. You reward players accordingly. It's not like they gave him an extra 5 million. At most it was probably a million. We have the cap space to do so.

Take care of your guys. Do it intelligently, but take care of them if their performance justifies it.

Yep. Now that's thinking outside the box. It's good to have Mincey back in the mix.

Signing DM to an Eagle-type contract would have set a bad precedence. This is nothing. Just showing some good faith to one of our better players last year on D.

It's probably a very small increase in % of the cap. I don't mind it at all. I think he's going to be a very solid rotational piece and he seems to be a good locker room/team guy.

We're talking about small rewards here, not a Miles Austin/Marion Barber contract. Small recognitions and bonuses that will be pretty negligible in the big scheme of things don't go unnoticed.

The NFL is a cutthroat business, and psychology can have a huge factor on not only a player but on a team in general. A little consideration can go a long way in a business like this, and it also incentivizes players to outplay expectations.

Not to mention, this approach is probably a large reason why we were able to land Hardy on the deal he's got, why we were able to land La'el as an UDFA when he had many other suitors, and why we think we can nurture arguably the best pass rusher in the draft after he'd probably have gone top 5 otherwise.

I favor this approach.

Yes. One that by the end of the year, if things go to plan, is not a starter.

Expensive insurance if you ask me.
