“He said ‘the No. 1 thing we’re going to do is we’re going to get this run game like the old days,’” Linehan said of Garrett. “He was thinking of the days when he was wearing a uniform here. That was loud and clear, and we were all-in, I was all-in from the get-go.

There's the primary quote I was remembering earlier. Thanks for finding it.

Are you stating that any coaching record at or below .500 is equivalent to not failing?

I don't need to look at a record to evaluate a coach. I watch the games and follow the team. Those that use record only to evaluate a QB or head coach are missing the boat. Its never that simple.

You're the one who brought up record...

And the point I was making is that Belichick and Carroll were not Belichick and Carroll until, you know, they were.

I brought up record amidst several other things. Not just record.

Under your premise, then Wade will be hall of fame. His 4 year record was better than Garretts.

So when did Bellicheck and Carroll suck as coaches?

You ever take a look at Linehan's history as a head coach and OC before coming here? It was very pass heavy.

Since you're so fond of pulling up quotes, here's one from Linehan last year:

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2014/10/16/linehan-ground-game-was-garrett’s-top-priority-when-i-signed

This thread needs to die.

If Garrett had been able to do what Linehan did with the run game, then Garrett would still be coaching the offense. He couldnt and so he isnt.

Garrett preached every year about running the ball, he simply didnt do it. So someone else was brought it to do it. Very simple stuff.

The lions were not the Cowboys, so the comparison cant be made. But we saw quite clearly that Linehan can do both. Garrett failed.

Yes, thanks for illustrating my point. That is exactly how Commander fans sound when discussing Garrett.

Actually all 3 fan bases of the other NFC East teams sound that way.

Of course most of them don't actually believe what they're saying... they're just trolling to elicit a response out of Cowboy fans.

For some reason they like to invent crazy BS to argue with Cowboy fans about.

Oh well, I quit worrying about that stuff years ago. I tend to just laugh it off because they are being ridiculous and are only showing how little they know about football.

All that proves is that there are many fans of other teams that know a lot more about football then some of the Garrett homers on here.

But hey, Jerry told Garrett and everyone on the team to make the playoffs right? So I guess he gets all the credit? LOL

Give me a break.

You're either a troll or just plain miserable. Either way I feel sorry for you.

Im sorry that I made you cry. LOL

This thread for those of us fans that are debating Jason Garrett. If you don't like it, take your ball and go home.

Transparent.

You can wish and hope all you want, but nothing can make Garrett a great coach but Garrett himself. Unless we win a SB with Garrett at the helm, then all these wasted years watching Garrett bumble the coaching will be for nothing.

Garrett showed that he is a better HC when he is not a HC/OC. He also made a great choice in Linehan. That is all he has proven.

But the one thing you cant get away from is the fact that this team is way better off when Garrett doesnt handle the offense. Debate that all you want, the results are night and day.

Petty and transparent.

Petty? Hardly. I dont like coaches that get out coached week in and week out. That blow wins by the way they call the game. Its called high standards. We saw first hand what a REAL OC could do for this team. 6 wins.

Transparent? Yep, I dont like Jason Garrett. Worst OC I have ever seen. No BS.

You don't follow. That's ok. Don't worry about it.

Garrett isn't an OC.

This a joke?

Carroll with the Jets?

Bellicheck with the Browns?

How new are you to following the game?

See, now you're putting words in my mouth. Never said Garrett's going to be a HOFer - all I said is you need time to know. Garrett is growing & learning and his arrow is pointing up.

It generally takes 3-4 years for a culture to set in. Lo and behold, that's exactly what's happening.

As for Wade Phillips, he has a much larger sample size and had one when he came to Dallas in 2007. He is what he is, was what he was, yada yada.

This really isn't rocket science.

In other words, a coach is failing according to whatever criteria you determine is adequate. Cool. Admittedly self-limiting but cool nonetheless.

There is no doubt this is Jason Garrett’s roster. 3 Parcells players remain and only 5 Wade players are left, too. That leaves 49 players who have been here for 3 seasons or less. That is right, only 11 players on the Dallas Cowboys were here before the 2012 training camp that occurred just 36 months ago. And as amazing as it sounds, 31 players who have only been since the 2014 training camp. Let this be a lesson about the length of your average NFL career. They happen in the blink of an eye for most every player in the league. It is only the outliers who get to 8 or 10 seasons in pro football.
