Thats what I was wondering, why would Dez post that if he was gonna be out 10-12 weeks

Because Dez is like a good parent that doesn't want his followers to panic.

alicetooljam, that's my point. Durant tried to rush back after 6-8 weeks and reinsured himself. The amount of blood flow to this portion of the foot is minimal at best which is why you should wait the full 3-4 months to just let the bone heal.

While it's Dez's foot, he a.) never had this injury before and b.) is not a doctor, so he really doesn't know as much as he would like to about this.

However, a very likely scenario (that I pray doesn't happen) is that we are out of the playoff race at 12 weeks, which means the team deactivates him for the remainder of the season.

If this team is, minus Dez, out of the playoff race with a quarter of the season yet to play, they weren't going to do anything in the playoffs anyway. I don't think there's much chance of that being true.

Yea, but im sure the doctors gave a timetable for this injury, maybe they told him 6-8 weeks.

When you have a top tier QB like Romo, this is not the end of the world. I hope they do not rush him back too soon. We will have a stronger defense and have a QB who can spread the ball around really well. I think we will finally start seeing Escobar becoming a major factor. Sheesh, all the negative Nancys around here. I am usually a glass half empty guy but this does not bother me near as much as some of you.

this is why i was initially concerned... i remember asking @jobberone about this...

Ryan nevertheless responded, without profanity or other frustration. And he explained that a bone graft is “fairly common for elite athletes with this surgery.” Ryan added that most doctors believe a bone graft “enhances blood flow at the fracture site.”

His time table is insignificant when it comes to his long term health... everything is just speculation at this point... waiting game.

As a 76er fan that has been waiting on Joel Embiid to play for two years this is definitely not good news. If I'm the Cowboys I would just put Dez on IR and go with what I have now. Let Dez rest his foot and make sure he's ready to go for next season.

FWIW, Jene Bremel said that the graft is a pretty common procedure for athletes because the blood flow in that area is what determines the timeline of the recovery. Grafts usually increase the blood flow to shorten the recovery.

Also, Rappaport got his information from someone that had no involvement with Dez's procedure.

Ed Werder is tweeting the graft was done in order to Dez on the field quicker...
