Nfl network had the Dez out 10-12 weeks up as a headline (above their upcoming topics on the left) just 10 minutes ago. Now they've taken it off.

This is what happens when you have Ian Rapoport and his invisible sources on your payroll.

Hey - Don't be dejected, Mr. Fan.

He didn't actually need a graft. They just chose that option in doing the procedure in order to promote the best blood supply to the bone tissue. When an outsider looks at the surgical report, he logically may conclude that the graft was done because of a complication, and then assume a longer recovery period. There were no complications or unexpected findings.

Is there any OTHER reason to use a bone graft to repair a jones fracture other than to promote blood flow?

What the article said, and obviously this is from a surgeon who has no 1st down knowledge of the injury is:

According to the surgeon, who did not examine Bryant, the use of the bone graft indicates the doctor was worried enough about the bone healing by itself that the decision was made to add to the procedure.

Everyone should know by now to take any of these " reports" with a huge grain of salt. Rap,Werder,Fish etc. Have all been known to be way off base in their haste to be the first to break or challenge a story. And just because Werder is reporting what we take as good news, doesn't let him off the hook for being an even larger hack than any of them.
They don't know any more then we do about when Dez will be back. Even his own doctors aren't going to give a definitive time. It's 6-8 weeks for now. If in a few weeks it's not going as they hoped. It'll become 10-12 weeks. If at 10-12 weeks the team feels it's not worth bringing him back due to the circumstances at the time. He'll be done for the season. But nobody knows which of those scenarios is going to play out. I'm going to kick back and see what the rest of the team can do without him. If he makes it back in the predicted time line or even at all. That'll just be icing on the cake for me.

Per Clarence Hill, Cowboys stick to 6-8 weeks. Says bone grafts are common with foot injury.

You probably won't until it is too late. Remember this is an organization that carried Terry Glenn for an entire season on the active roster even when it was clear he wouldn't make it back 100%.

Did you just compare this org to the Terry Glenn days?

Curious question... where do they take the bone for the graft from?

The hip?

Good thing we play a horrible Eagles defense today. Need to start going toward the run game first.

I have been figuring around 10 weeks since I knew he broke the bone, so this just pretty much says what I've been thinking already.

He will be back for December and a late season push.

Gonna be tough without Dez.

For sure. Everybody needs to step up their game and make sure Dez is playing for something when he gets back. You know Dez is going to do his part in the healing process.

Weeks 14-17 gives him plenty of time to hit stride heading into the playoffs.

Nope. Durant had the same injury and was not there. Tried to come back too early and got hurt even more. Dez is done for the year.

I expect nothing from Dez this year. He's a non-factor due to healing time, workout time, and being out of sync...if he comes back and offers anything this season, that's a bonus.

Injuries happen...now you move on and do the best you can. Plenty of time to make adjustments and still make the playoffs.

Durant got hurt mid season not in Week 1.

My point is, you don't come back from that injury that quickly. You have to let this heal. Even if Dez comes back, he won't even be close to the same Dez we would need. And if he comes back too soon, his chance for re injury is through the roof.

The Cowboys aren't gonna bring him back till he is fully healthy. They're not gonna bring him back till he's 100 percent and even if he's not as good as Dez typically is he'd still be someone who could help us win a championship. Nobody knows how he'd be when he returns. It's all speculation we just have to wait and see.
