Will Dez play the next game and QB decision

It seems that Dez has a good chance to play after the bye.

I wonder if the Cowboys will convince themselves that Weed can win if Dez is playing.

Normally, I would think they look at the Pats game and think they have to try something different and the only real option is a change at QB; however, if Dez is returning they might think that is the change.

On defense they'll probably look at what Hardy and the defense did to Brady early in the game and think that if they do that to Eli he'll start throwing up picks and completely unravel.

The Hardy defense combined with Dez against an opponent that is NOT the Patriots could look good enough to team management to just keep trying Weed at QB.

It does seem that if they had Hardy and Dez in the Falcons and Saints games that they would have won those.

I guess I should see if there is any preseason game footage of Cassell. I really have no idea what he offers at this point in his career.

This is my worry. Garrett will convince himself that Weeden can win when Dez gets back. The reality is the guy doesn't throw down field even when someone gets open and when he does he's late like he was yesterday trying to find T-Will. Got lucky he wasn't picked off. The man just cannot get it done. If the Cowboys seriously are gonna continue to start him might as well forfeit the season.

I hope that the staff isn't blind to what everyone else has been seeing, and that is Weeden's poor downfield performance. He hasn't made good decisions or accurate throws, and I don't think Dez, Megatron, or Jerry rice would make much difference. And he can't get anything at all on his throws if on the move, so flushing him won't open up the field or buy more time.

At this point I would be in favor of a more permanent type of flushing.

Probably not much. Either way, I wouldn't want to rush Dez back.

Good question, xwalker. I fervently hope and pray that the FO and staff will agree that there's no valid point in subjecting Weeden and his less-than-adoring public to suffer through another display of his ineptitude. Period.

The question of renewing Dez's activity is something that I'm sure the doctors will influence to, at the very least, a considerable extent. Hopefully they won't rush him back before he's 100% ready and able to withstand the rigors of live and violent action. I fear they may rush it in hopes of winning again. Let's hope it doesn't backfire on him if they do. It is not worth risking his health for the rest of his entire career for a season that might be in the crapper, regardless.

That's my fear.

Also, on Cowboys Break, I forget if it was Broaddus or Eatman, but one them brought up something that made me cringe. What if Dez lobbies for Weeden to start? I realize Dez has some pull being one of their stars, but I hope he doesn't have enough pull to sway personnel decisions one way or the other.

Team management has fairly consistently said after the bye if the target for his return. There were reports that it would be longer but I don't think those came for the team.

Stephen said after the by 3 weeks ago.

I'm not too worried about them rushing him back because they've become very conservative about injury issues.

Why would he do that? Because they were college teammates? I don't get the impression that they're buddies.

Yes, they have been very careful in most cases but Dez isn't most cases. He's a very special one that the FO surely feels is critical to their success. Hopefully, they won't weaken and allow their competitive fire to interfere with their better judgment. The fact that they apparently decided three weeks ago is troubling to me. At that point in time it would seem a bit too early to decide upon his return. If they do, let's just keep our fingers crossed.

I say no way Dez plays the wk after the bye and no way Weeden gets the next start, team needs a shakeup badly...nothing to loose at all by handing the reins to Cassell at this point. Worst case we loose to the Giants, anyone really believe that Weeden beats the Giants?

I do not want Weeden and Dez on the field at the same time. It may sound ridiculous, but I believe Weeden would be worse with Dez, because I think Weeden would stare him down the whole game, which would lead to INTs and possibly getting Dez killed.

Dunno. Maybe Dez feels comfortable with Weeden from all the Romo Wednesdays? They most likely just threw it out there as a "what if" situation.

The one thing I worry about if Cassell starts the game after the bye and if Dez plays that game is the chemistry between the two. May have only a practice or two to throw to each other depending on Dez's return to practice. At the very least Weeden has thrown to him in the past.

I had the same concern about someone thinking Dez coming back would be enough, but I think that last series is all you had to see from Weeden to know he is not the answer and I think JG finally saw it. Weeden was not reading the defense. He missed Witten on the first goal line throw, then I swear someone told him that Witten was open the play before so he decides to stare down Witten the two plays and then the last pass was nowhere near Williams. He was forced to make a throw and could not do it with receivers open and no real pressure in the pocket. Then you see Williams upset and Witten talking to Cassel on the sideline.. then Weeden says he's unlucky and plays woe is me... if those are not signs that you need to change your qb, then there is something else going on here.

I think if they had that much faith in Weedon, they never would have traded for Cassel. He starts as soon as Dez gets back. Weedon is/was, as single game replacement. They have had to play him until Cassel learns the offense.

I would fully support it 100 percent, if Garrett puts his job on the line.

garrett is putting his job on the line if u don't win you don't last long in the nfl. so he needs to figure it out pretty quick or they will find someone else to pay the check to

After listening to Jerry I think we do not see Dez as early as we thought, the injection news is a little flare to prepare us for the event. It matters little Weeden cannot get it close enough to these receivers and with Dez I can see him forcing the issue.
