1. DETROIT, MICHIGAN

Rank Last Year: #1

Though it is America's most violent city with a population of more than 200,000 for the third year in a row, according to Law Street, Detroit residents can perhaps take small comfort in knowing that violent crime again experienced a slight decrease in 2014, declining by 4 percent. The numbers of murders, rapes, and robberies fell, with murders falling to the lowest point in 47 years. However, the number of reported aggravated assaults climbed by about 4.5 percent.

Flint isn't number 1 because they dropped slightly below 200,000 population this year for the first time in decades.

I was in Memphis last weekend. I can believe the # 2 ranking. Everyone I asked said be off Beale st before 10:30 at night.

As oppressed as Detroit is..... it's always been good to me during my visits.... I feel its pain, and the large abandoned buildings where industry used to live is a sight to see.

I wonder how much of those riots in st Luis affected their results for this study

Kinda weird that no city in Texas made the list.

Chicago is not dangerous, I live here.

Ahh.....That depends what you consider Chicago. If you live on the North side or Lincoln Park, Chicago is not dangerous. Move to the West and South Side, yes it is.

I got cousins who live in Memphis. Was real interesting talking to them about the nature of the city, and how it has devolved over the years. Wasn't bad for me personally, but we weren't anywhere near central city.

Depends where West and South. Certain neighborhoods are dangerous but in general you are safe in Chicago. Basically, if you are not from Chicago and decide to visit you will be completely fine.

Must be a minimum size in that list as Camden, NJ is usually #1.

Wonder why Greenwich, CT isn't on that list.

That list is very interesting in that the highest death rates per 100K people are all over the map.
Deep South, California, Wisconsin... all over.

I agree with this. Chicago is like my 3rd home and I've run into more of a criminal element when my dad lived on the north side by Lakeshore Drive. It's all relative.

Sorry to hear about all your relatives. ;) I grew up on the edge of Detroit, (6 miles away from the 1967 riots) and most of my relatives are not criminals. :D
