Can someone make an All-22 breakdown of Jones? Would like to see screens and GIFs of his performance .

Claiborne has no business being in this group. He is playing very well

:lmao2:How many games has it been since he's been "playing well". How many times have he been burnt? How long has he been on this team. Wasn't he supposed to be "all world". Ive had about enough. I've moved on.

Dallas Cowboys: When the Cowboys drafted Byron Jones in the first round they lauded his position flexibility, but he is beginning to see time solely at safety and could move into the starting lineup soon. He took a series in each half against the Giants from J.J. Wilcox. On one play he was able to show his center-field skills and break up a deep ball down the middle of the field. Barry Church did not practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury, so Jones' move to full-time safety could come this week against Seattle. -- Todd Archer

Always a good thing to play the young. Good luck, Byron! We need your talents and stuff.

Hopefully this will get Corey White more snaps. I wouldn't mind seeing him be the other starting CB across from Claiborne. I don't see Carr losing his job though. It'll get Patmon back on the field too if we're playing a lot of Dime packages like we have in the past.

This year, Marinelli is intent on employing a single high safety as often as he can; consequently, he needs a rangy athletic safety. That does not seem to be JJ Wilcox at this point. As I recall, last year, the Cowboys had to go back to using more cover two looks because neither Wilcox nor Church could handle being back there by themselves.

Surely if Jones comes in it will be as the FS. He is not going to replace Church as the SS ? Drop Wilcox down inside and if that is what they intend, put Jones as the single high safety.
Have not noticed how his tackling has been, anyone ?

I'm serious. Claiborne had outplayed all of those other guys you named this year. Solid cb play from him

whoopee do. #6 pick, traded up to get him and you are happy because he is SOLID?

He doesn't have the best form on his tackles, but he's the only guy out there not just trying to knock people over. He doesn't break down well, but he wraps up.

Smells like a true safety needs to be had in the next draft. S, WR, QB, RB, CB

I'm pretty sure the play he's referring to that Jones broke up was one he actually misplayed at first and then just pure athleticism got him back into the play for the breakup.

I think you're right about the play, but the fact that he had the athleticism to recover overrides the mistake in coverage, IMHO. Now, if he were to consistently make mistakes in coverage, that would be a different matter, but that hasn't been the case so far.

He played more snaps than Church against the Giants and only 1 less snaps than Wilcox.

Jones played 97% of the snaps against the Pats.

The bigger question will be who replaces Church as the in the box Safety. Heath replaced Church for a few snaps in the Giants game.

Church goes out of his way to make himself available. He plays team leader for them and they help him in return.

Coverage in the middle of the field has to get better. I don't care how it gets done. Jones, Brady, et al have ravished the middle of the field for big gains where for the most part the defense has been solid to good.

The problem with single high right now is that you have to shade over Carr. Carr would probably be pretty good if they gave him help over the top and let him play aggressive underneath. He just doesn't have the long deep speed and is always in trail position that gets extended by a simple arm swipe by the receiver when the ball goes up. In this game in particular I think there are going to be a lot of deep routes. Expect Claiborne to be tested more than once against Lockette. With the way Church has been playing I like the idea of Wilcox and Jones, but you also have Jimmy Graham to contend with, if Wilson ever figures out how to throw to him. That is probably where you see Corey White come in. McClain and Lee are going to have their hands full this game with Lynch and Wilson. Back to the original point, I like the range Jones offers on the backend if we can stop the run upfront.
