Dallas Cowboys: When the Cowboys drafted Byron Jones in the first round they lauded his position flexibility, but he is beginning to see time solely at safety and could move into the starting lineup soon. He took a series in each half against the Giants from J.J. Wilcox. On one play he was able to show his center-field skills and break up a deep ball down the middle of the field. Barry Church did not practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury, so Jones' move to full-time safety could come this week against Seattle. -- Todd Archer

I'm pretty sure the play he's referring to that Jones broke up was one he actually misplayed at first and then just pure athleticism got him back into the play for the breakup.

Awesome. He looks great and he's gaining confidence. If he could be a ball-hawking safety, he's an incredible asset.

If his angles are better and he can tackle I'm all for it. The guys in front of him haven't been good tackling or taking good angles.

Leary isn't hurt. Neither is Church and Wilcox.

Collins and Jones are simply better.

Leary was clearly not 100% recovered from groin injury and Church is currently hurt. "Barry Church did not practice Wednesday because of an ankle injury, so Jones' move to full-time safety could come this week against Seattle."

He played more snaps than Church against the Giants and only 1 less snaps than Wilcox.

Jones played 97% of the snaps against the Pats.

The bigger question will be who replaces Church as the in the box Safety. Heath replaced Church for a few snaps in the Giants game.

That had already been happening. Jones is simply the better player and he continues to prove it.

Collins is much more powerful than Leary. Injury didn't dictate this. Performance did.

Nothing he has done suggests he is anything close to a ballhawk, at this point. He's really good at covering tight ends. That's his niche. Keep him doing that. He is more of a cover guy than a safety.

Jones was already playing starting snaps, if he replaces Church this week, it will be because Barry is injured, whether he retains that spot when Church is healed will be determined. Collins was always more powerful than Leary, but only replaced him when Leary was hobbled. McFadden and Butler similarly were elevated in status because of injuries, but both were better players than the people were playing ahead of them before the injuries occurred.

Especially with Mr. Lynch in town.
